Set analysis

Playing in Zithal's tournament the other day I had this hand and have thought about how I could have played it differently...what would you have done.

Blinds 25/50, all 25 players remain. My stack is above average (about2400). Eveyone else at the table has an average stack (1500) except one person who is not involved in the hand.

UTG raiser makes it 150 to go. *seems to overplay hands but is a solid player*

UTG+1 calls. *Raises and calls with premium hands, called immidiately*

I call with 6s6h in MP. *Have a lot of respect at this table*

Button calls *likes to play any two cards with position*

if i was thinking clearly at the time, i woudl set a pretty good trap. i wopudl throw a feeler bet in and say soemthing like, lets see who has soemthing better than my 8.

if anyone calls they might have the k, or even just be trying to muscle you out. at that point i woudl probably raise whatever the river is, forcing whoever may have called me to re-raise thinking they have the better of me.

i dont knwo if any of you guys think this is dis-honest move, but it might just work right?

and hey, it might just be the novice in me coming up with rediculous schemes to make beautiful hands

Well you're in a bit of an interesting spot ... you've made a set but the card that made your set also put a three flush on the board.

The problems you face with a small bet are varied. Why is that person calling your bet? Do they have a weak king, did they maybe pair up a middle card, do they simply hold a big club (A, Q, J, T) and want to make their flush on the river.

Now if you put out this feeler bet, what happens if some one re-raises you. You could be facing someone who has made a flush, even a straight (57) or possibly someone overplaying a king. I think i do something almost unthinkable i check in this spot, and unless another club or a card that makes a 4 straight comes down i put in a decent sized bet on the river (that looks like a steal) and aim to get called by people with a pair. If a scare card comes, i'm still willing to call a small bet, but will not get over involved with this hand.

I'm surprised no one bet on the flop to chase out those with flush draws. I'd have to guess someone made a mistake letting that get checked through.

What sort of hands could the others be holding? To raise to 3xBB UTG, would the guy be holding a mid pair or suited high cards? UTG+1 called quickly - does he have a high pair?

I think a pot-sized bet might just scare them out - as long as none of them have the flush. I might bet 450-600 here. Even if someone has a flush and smooth calls, you still have a chance to pair the board and hit the fh.

Alright taking in to consideration of what you three said, you basically all summed up what I was thinking about after the fact. I was a fairly large stack but wanted to send out a feeler bet and at the time didn't really want to get called. I figured noone would call me without the flush or a very high nut draw, I had a lot of respect at the table. My thoughts after the fact were, since I do have a healthy stack perhaps I could play it riskier and trap someone if they were to hit two pair or a small flush and I hit a FH. Well, here is how the hand played out...

I bet out 600 and take down the pot...
