AC Sept. 12-16

Just a quick trip to AC to take advantage of Caesars Great Race to Rewards promo.

The Great Race To Rewards at Caesars Atlantic City - and more Atlantic City Shows and Events

Going to swing by Harrahs Chester on the way home. With my wife along, this little trip will pay us $600 from the promo.

Anyways, not too experienced with AC so looking for advice on where the good card rooms are and if there is anything not to miss/do while I'm there. Suggestions for food etc.

Also if anyone wants to meet up, I'm staying at Caesars AC for two nights and one at Ballys. All comped of course. Gotta love Total Rewards.

  • Left Cambridge @ 3:30pm Tues, short wait at Rainbow, $20+ in tolls later, arrived in AC and checked in Bally's at 1:30 am.

Weird meteorological happenstance: got CHML 900 almost all the way through Pennsylvania, so got to listen to the entire Jays game.

Bally's tries to look nice but if you look closely it's more like that $5 costume jewelry at the flea market, so the room looked glitzy but was just ok. Nice view of the ocean when we got up though. The room had adjoining rooms on either side and it was a Murphy bed so you could open all the doors, flip up the bed and have a huge party room I guess. Great for bachelor parties or something.

Anyways we were glad for the generous check out time of 12 and you can check in as early as 10 am, if your room is ready, so we headed over to Caesar's - which was all connected anyways and got our room where we were staying for the next two nights. It wasn't ready so we got upgraded to a pretty nice room but it didn't seem much of an upgrade. TV in the bathroom mirror etc but at any rate it was nicer than Bally's.
  • So after checking in at Caesar's next door, we wandered out in search of lunch, stopping to do a little shopping at the nearby outlet mall. Then we walked out onto the beach for a bit before heading to Bally's.

The Bally's poker room is upstairs in a completely private room, away from the noise of the casino. We sat in on a strange $1/1 $100 max nl game, where, despite the blinds, it was $2 to call. It made it kind of a fun game because you you could make it $6 or $8 to go and be a reasonable raise on the blinds. Still, the game was extremely loose and passive, sort of like a limit game where if you had put any money in at all, no-one would fold unless the raise went to $15 or more. The BBJ was $128k, which was small - it had been hit recently. Usually it is upwards of $200k. Every week they drop the requirement down from KKKK or better down to QQQQ, JJJJ and so on until it hits. Then the winner/loser get the lion's share, but everyone playing in the 4 Caesar's properties - Ballys, Caesars, Harrahs and Showboat at that time, gets a share - usually $250-$1000 each. Drinks are free but if you want bottles instead of draft, you need a diamond card. It's pretty liberal though, as long as the waitress found someone at the table with a diamond card she would bring the entire table anything they wanted. All the locals were usually diamond level, so it was never a problem the entire trip.

Rake is $4 max plus a jackpot drop.

So after several hours, I cashed out up a buyin+ and mmoose was down. We headed back to Caesars and bought 2 24hr Buffet of buffets passes, good at any of the 4 properties. Caesars buffet was decent but not exceptional, kind of disappointing, considering the Caesars is usually the high end scale of their chain. We emptied our comps, so instead of $39.99 each, our food for the trip cost us $17 total.

After dinner I sat in at Caesars $1/2 nl, $300 max. Where I quickly doubled up with the quad kings hand posted in the BBV. Didn't get anything else going and left at midnight up the buyin+. Double comps that night, so I think I made another $8 in comps. Caesars poker room was ok but not separate from the rest of the casino and not as nice as Ballys.
  • Nice TR Moose.

For the record, we found the buffet at Caesars LV disappointing also.

    Chip pron?
  • The next day we started at Ballys again and played for an hour or so. I grinded out a $2 win and mmoose was down again. Actually she didn't win at the tables the entire trip. All run bad now hopefully used up. We swiped our cards in the monopoly contest and I won $5 slots promo bucks which I skillfully spun into $1.50. I'm that good at slots.

Then we went for lunch, since after Labour day, the buffets don't serve breakfast anymore. We ate at Ballys Wild Wild West, which is a smaller casino between Bally's and Caesar's. It was a good buffet but popular - we waited just over an hour to get in. The food was pretty good, better than Caesar's buffet.

We headed out shopping for the afternoon and decided to go to Harrahs on the way back, since it is way off the strip. BTW you pay to park everywhere, I guess because they don't want people using the garages to visit the beach for free. But if you earn 25 points you can print a parking voucher at a kiosk. We didn't find that out until later - no thanks to the useless Ballys check-in counter that didn't bother to explain it when we asked if it was possible to get parking validated.

So anyways Harrahs was a good move. The casino is huge and beautiful. Very high end stores etc. Here the only way to get parking is a platinum card or better. Fortunately my mother the slot jockey loaned her card before we left. Again Harrahs has a beautiful huge poker room, 25+ tables. We just wanted to play a bit before dinner so we sat in a $2/4 limit game which was just opening. 4 couples all sitting side by side, and two guys, which were together also, although possibly not a couple. Hmm...collusion? W/E it's $2/4 limit. I won one hand the entire time so we both cashed out down, although mmoose lost less than me, although I bought her in, so I guess I was a double loser. DoH! We did get to see Michael Phelps who was playing $2/5. A hot blonde dealer rotated to our table directly from that game and her toke box was obviously 2x as full as any other dealer's box. Phelps hosts some Friday night pool party thing for Harrahs.

So off to dinner, which was a long walk across the casino and we got there with 10 min to spare before our 24hr passes expired. We were seated almost immediately. This was an awesome buffet, with cooked to order steaks, pasta, chinese. Plus they were grilling these huge sides of salmon right in front of you. The salmon was unbelievable. Also they had a fresh deli section where they would slice up corned beef etc in front of you and made the most awesome sandwiches. The guy beside us came for the sandwich and that was it. For desert, beside the usual stuff, they had vanilla and chocolate bread pudding (which I love) and chocolate, vanilla and cherry sauce to go with it. Also the most amazing gelato and one of those stone cold ice cream plates. They only made one kind of stone cold ice cream at a time - tonight it was rocky road and also looked amazing.

So after dinner we went back to Ballys and sat in the $1/1 game again. Another losing session for both of us and unfortunately the fire alarm went off for at least 1/2 hour but it was a little better than the dreadful muzak they were playing at the time so that was a wash. It was double comps at Ballys on Thursday and midsession I went down during the fire alarm and got a nice shirt at the gift shop, which ended up costing a whopping $.99. Another losing session for both of us, so Thursday ended up being a bad day for both of us fortunately we were still up for the trip.
  • Friday we checked out and drove to Chester, Pa, about 1:15 away to continue the Great Rewards race, which was paying us $600 in comps.

The casino is in the middle of nowhere but the poker room was upstairs again and very nice. The dealers were excellent. We played for an hour. I sat in the $1/2 $300 max game, made a couple sets and cashed out up $81 and mmoose lost again at $2/4 limit! We played $5 in the slots just in case anything had gone wrong with earning points at the tables to make sure we qualified for the race promo. I left with $1 but mmoose finally turned her luck into a $7 win. After that we headed back to Canada, getting dinged again for another $20+ in damn tolls. Virtually no wait again at Rainbow bridge and we were home by 10 pm.

    Pics shortly.
  • sounds like fun either way moose....rainbow FTW
  • The 'upgraded' Caesars room. Nothing too special, but nice.

Nice glass shower. Watching ESPN in the mirror while brushing your teeth rocked.

    P1040255.JPG

The entrance to Ballys Wild Wild West casino. They were advertising their swipe and win Monopoly game which netted me a cool $1.50.

The chip collection, plus another free rack. The extras are for Johnnie.

The more I use my macro attachment the more I think it was the best eight bucks I ever spent.

I think a gambling/sports trip is in order. Philly - all 4 major league teams in one massive complex. This was on the way from AC to Chester.

Had to take it quick from the car but you can sorta see all 3 stadiums, with the Phillies stadium peeking out between the other two.

Cool tunnel into the Appalachians. For some reason, one round and one square.

  • More chips! Thanks Moose!

We've been talking about a road trip for a few years now. Most of the major cities on the US East coast (AC, New York, Boston, Philly, Pittburgh, Washignton) are basically only 10-12 drives away. That would be no problem for a car of 3 or 4 to drive straight down. We could easily plan a trip to multiple cites and hit the parks/arenas and casinos along the way to break up the drive. The mid-west isn't that far either: Chicago (which I love almost as much as Vegas) and Indianapolis and Cleveland are within a day's drive.

Took a look at the Jays schedule, unfortunately they only host the Nats and Phillys, but travel to Atlanta and Milwaukee. There's always NY or Boston!

There's another stop to be made also: Baseball HOF in Cooperstown, which is not overly out of the way.

Yeah, this was when we were there to pop your Vegas cherry right?

I've actually looked into this (mainly cause I'm a sporting eventing whore). I have considered the Cooperstown, Boston, New York (and maybe Philadelphia) loop..or the New York, Philly, Baltimore, Washington, Pittsburgh (and maybe Cleveland) loop

Road trips are awesome.......did a Vegas (3 days of gambling/boozing) --> Oakland (Angels via A's) --> San Jose (Flames via Sharks / preseason) --> San Francisco (49ers via Seahawks). Awesome trip, other than getting too drunk in San Jose Saturday night (Owen Nolan's bar btw), and sleeping in for the NFL game....missed the first half, and, more importantly, the tailgaiting.

Possible Phoenix road trip this fall.........

I looked into that for March of this past year but didn't happen. Spring training, Suns, Coyotes, golf.

Yes. Wraych and stopped in for lunch last year and were equally unimpressed, except for the fact I stole a bunch of pretzel sticks for our room. Luckily we were in the middle of our 24 hour buffet pass.
