Rake Consideration on River

During my final grind today I stumbled on an interesting hand. It was interesting because I took the time to check the river purely because if called the rake would go from 0 to .50 , thuse I was essentially betting $1 to win 50 cents.

I have to admit that this situation has not come up that often that I can remember, but I am wondering if those that play a LOT of low limit poker ever run into a situation where betting the river becomes a tougher choice because it would pass the rake threshhold.

Here is the hand

As I was playing 4 tables I really did not have a "read" on this opponent so I had no idea if my top pair blah kicker was good, bad or a draw. I certainly would have called a river bet.

What do the heavy low limit players think? Silly to pass on betting due to the rake threshhold?

I have also read that Pacific poker actually collects rake on uncalled bets and I would have to believe that rake consideration has to be a factor in these types of choices there since you could bet $1 opponent folds and you lose 25 or 50 cents to the rake (not sure what they charge). Kind of amazes me that any site would have this (though their site does have by far the worst players to compensate for that). Pacific has no NL ring games and I can't imagine any working with that in place.

Comments

  • Pacific has no NL ring games

FYI, download their software again and they now have NL tables. Enjoy fishing.
  • They implemented NL tables about a month ago I believe? Maybe 2 at the most.
