In theory yes, but unfortunately thats not how it was set up. It would mean huge development in the back end for setting up tournaments. its all about priorities. Would you rather see this change or a better loyalty program for poker players (for example)?
why do people have trouble making first time deposits? i've convinced a friend to play some satellites for events 11 and 12 of the WSOP but he says he can't register and has to call to verify info. he's now considering not bothering due to the inconvenience. i think it was mentioned earlier in this thread as well that it's happened to others as well

Tony, we have an extremely detailed registration process. This is to ensure the highest level of correct identity. Some players can't register at first attepmt because their info doesnt match up (For example, they just moved and addresses aren't matching). Other sites don't have such strict policies for sign up, but to get money off their sites can be painful. ie photo copy of drivers license, utility bill, etc etc and payments take a long time to process. PlayNow doesnt have this issues as players can take advantage of the fastest and safest direct payments in the industry.
End of the day, some of the time pains at the beginning make the remainder of the money in/out process so much better and safer.
January 23, 2013 – Manitoba Lotteries today launched Manitoba’s first-ever regulated online gambling site, adding to a growing trend across Canada to provide a site where players can play with confidence knowing that the site is a safe, secure, legal alternative to existing sites.
The new site, PlayNow.com, is operated by Manitoba Lotteries. Players can enjoy a wide range of casino games and live sports betting. Live poker is also available and includes players from British Columbia and Quebec, the two provinces where partner sites exist. Players must be at least 18 years of age and residents of Manitoba.

Nice, maybe they can start to offer some decent guarantees...I have a hard time logging in there as it is right now..not worth the frustrations for small guarantees.
Hi guys - I was looking for a user forum at Playnow.com and found that they didn't have one. I'm glad to say though that my search led me to this site. It's already answered a couple of questions that I had.
I joined Playnow.com the first day that they launched in MB. So far, I've been happy with the site. The software doesn't seem overly sophisticated, but it does the job. I really liked the free $50 in Casino Money and the free $10 Sports Bet, which I was able to turn into $60 of cold, hard cash to add to my original bankroll.
Looking forward to discussing more about Playnow.com and other poker issues here at Pokerforum.ca.
Negatives - Pretty much no reward system or rake back
- Chat bans are handed out way to lightly( I got a 1 month ban for typing "this game is fcking crazy" and "fck ya!"
I have my fingers crossed that playnow will create a better rake back system, because if they did the site would take off.
I wasn't aware of the chat bans, but in truth, I don't really see a need for profanity on any site.
You're so right about the lack of a reward system. The site really lacks excitement or sophistication and there is no indication that the company has any commitment to growing and improving.
Thanks for reminding me about Playnow. I haven't played there for a while now. I still have a bunch of money on deposit so I'll have to either give them another try or withdraw it soon.
It's only Quebec, BC and Manitoba for now because the other provinces are too slow in joining. Maybe even Alberta will beat Ontario in getting their poker site going, but the government network probably won't be good enough to compete with PokerStars, FTP, 888, etc.
This site has only 2-3 good tournaments and they are cancelled if the site doesn't get the amount of money back from entrants. I have lost all respect for this site, and if anyone else decides to play on it, be ready to get tournaments cancelled with no notice. the Guarantees are just a scam, they aren't Guarantees more like If we don't get 100k then we cancel tournament.
Are you guys serious!? If the BC site is fraudulently cancelling tourneys with an overlay just like PartyPoker does, you should complain to the government.
Oh, wait!

No matter who does this, I'll agree 100% it reeks and is very poor form.
I can't stand PlayNow's poker site. Layout is crappy, tournies get cancelled all the time, very poor rewards system compared to others. On top of that, the percentage of the losing hand sucking out on the turn and river is redonkulous.
Most of the posts in this thread are from a couple of years ago. Has anyone's opinion changed? It sounds like the only benefit is the relative safety of the deposits and winnings compared to the other (non-gov) sites. The disadvantages come from a wonky interface and technical issues -- or is that still the case?
Registered yesterday but haven't gotten around to trying a game yet.
Site is still soft, tournaments are OK when they run, I wish they had more deep stack guarantee's they have one nightly which is decent and their Sundays seem good for the volume. It's good that they have both a bad beat and micro bad beat jackpot. December freeroll giveaway tourney's were good not just cash but prizes as well. Still keep this in mind as long as there are no issues with the software and tech issues. Wish they had a better points for $ rakeback system. Still the biggest advantage is as you mention the safety of the deposits.

i would personally prefer a better loyalty program

It is no longer possible to queue for multiple tables and consequently will take a long time to get 4 or 5 tables going.
