It's smart to get samples (and then buy china clays)
If they are 14g they probably have a metal slug.
I'd suggest you either buy very cheap china clay's $0.06 or buy really nice (paulson) chips. Or use cheap china clays for your lower denominations and buy some good chips for the higher denomonations.
Even asking for samples is a waste if you ask me.
If you're in the market, stick to 9 or 10gr, clay or composite. Paulson is still the best name out there, but more expensive.
Determine what you want to use a set for, a few of us here can help you out. ChipTalk has great deals all the time and the advise is second to none.
Or you can wait for Master Moose to find this thread and HE'LL edumacate you good and proper.

14g chips feel great initially but after playing for a few hours, they are a pain.
+1 You don't want heavy chips. You will hate them after a couple hours. Real casino chips average 9g.
As to your link wow a new low for chinese knockoffs - copies of bud jones AND paulson fan of cards, which have already been knockoff'ed by BCC. Sad.
Crappy knockoffs:
Real Paulson Fan of Cards and BCC knockoffs (note the reversal of the cards in a sad attempt to 'avoid' copyright issues):
Real Bud Jones chips.
If you like Bud Jones you can get these from the chiproom for a good price. However I hate Bud Jones - slippery fuckers. Just go play at Great Blue Heron and see what I mean.
For god's sake, don't buy anything unless you check here first. $.20 a chip for these is $.19 too much. You can get real casino Paulson roulettes from the chiproom for $.18. Picked up 480 of these myself just recently.
I bought a similar Yin Yang set about 5 years ago and yes they are cheap and not in the same league as "real" chips, but they do the job and no one complains when we use them. You can spend as much or as little as you want on chips. There's usually a few of the cheap sets available on Kijiji if you really want to keep your spending down.
Jac
You'll see.
I don't mind the Dunes really, but much prefer the Pharaohs by far! Dunes to me are almost too plastic-y where the Pharaohs just feel like a nicer chip. They're about the same price though, so its really your call to make.
QFmfingT . . . I now own 4 sets, not including my HU chipset. And I still want to put together another one . . .
Oh, and Pharoah's FTW.
Same chip. Wat u talkin about Willis?
I'm sure you are thinking about injection molded chips. The Dunes, Pharoahs and Desert Palms exist in both versions. Make sure you get compression molded direct from Chiproom - ****through the Chiptalk site**** or else you are probably buying injection molded.
