  • In a "casino", alll verbal acts are binding, in this case folding out of turn. In a house game, I guess its up to the house or majority rules. I agree with your friend, you should be required to fold.
  • From Robert's book of rule fo poker on homepokertourney:
"10. Deliberately acting out of turn will not be tolerated. A player who checks out of turn may not bet or raise on the next turn to act. An action or verbal declaration out of turn may be ruled binding if there is no bet, call, or raise by an intervening player acting after the infraction has been committed."

  • As always with home games, this decision is up to the organizer of the game.

There is a big difference between acting out of turn by mistake, and acting out of turn deliberately in an attempt to manipulate the action ahead of you. Unless there is a different understanding at the particular home game you are in, the latter is unethical poker, and should not be allowed.

The decision that your hand is dead sounds appropriate to me.

PLUS you should be shot with your own excrement!
  • I vote with the majority. Your declaration looks like an angle shot to me and you should be held to your declared action.

On the other hand, in the wild and wooly world of home games often "anything goes." In my old home game we were known to look one and other in the eye and announce "Don't bet, I am going to call." It was considered fair play in my game, but generally is not.
