bad spot?

I can't seem to pull up my hh for some reason, but its pretty straight forward

13 players left, so two short tables..
Blinds 20k/40k +ante

I am big stack (of tourney) with 790k and in BB

folds around to co who has shoved a few hands in the last orbit, and shoves 350k at us. button and sb both fold.

We have 99..

don't slowroll the poor guy <.<

    I mean, there's a decent chance I'm calling with 22

    lol..I probably wouldn't have asked if I didn't lose the hand :P

I am more curious from an ICM standpoint..We knew from the beginning it was probably a race (he had AQ and caught)..knocked us back to 4th in chips and less than 10 bb's as the blinds went up next hand. My call chart says "call" all day long...and I did pretty much snap call..but losing these hands makes me question things..especially when the money is top heavy..

Shoved a couple hands later with A9s into the blinds and got snap called with qjo..blah
  • understand what you're saying Dennis but 99 is just way too good to be folding here esp for the amount he's shoving.

if we have 55 I know it's probably a race, if I have 99 i expect to be ahead more often than not

Let's face it, a player who rolls over AQ here after you call is very likely to be a fish

Richard , could you please explain why the player with AQ , is a fish. Thanks.

I just mean that his range to shove should be so much wider and contain so many worse hands than AQ that if he shows up with this top hand he's likely to be folding many holdings he shouldn't. I'm not saying he is a fish, I'm saying that mathematically there's a good chance he's too tight/scared money

lol you slow rolled him first. i was gonna say the same about 22, but more that its prob mathematically a call. i would hate to actually have that decision. but with 13 left and only 20 bbs we need more chips and prob can't pass this up at all.

    nonetheless....nash IS the icm calculator....
  • Yeah, I wouldn't like it either. What live players don't understand though is that once their stack drops there's not much tournament left. Blinding down to 2 BB and getting devastated when busting as if busting isn't a gradual proccess is something I see a lot at the casino

(the same goes for blinding out to 9 BB's and thinking there's still a lot of poker to be played)

This particular tourney was online. And I was chip lead with less than 20bb's...9 bb's was actually 5th position..which is why this spot sucked.

if you use the nash calculator you can adjust the ranges to what you feel are reasonable....you may find its an obvious answer whether its a fold or call, not matter how you adjust the ranges in any reasonable manor....you gotta do it...for 10 reasons.

Oh I know, and I barely hesitated, except to say out loud "this sucks"...lol Again, if I hadn't of lost this, I probably wouldn't have posted it..
