Being A Dealer at the Casino
I was gonna go apply at the casino to be a dealer there(cuz im lookin for a job right now), but Im not sure if i want to work there. There ar pros and cons I guess like any job...one of the main things, is that I signed up for the CPT and all the events would be held at Great Canadian Casinos which also means I would not be able to participate in any events. which would suck. There are tonnes of hot girls who work there (hehe) , I would also get to watch players and see how they play. It would suck working long hours and graveyards, not being able to play there, drunks playing at the table, and the casino atmosphere in general day in and day out....what do you think? Im just not sure if I should do it..

When you first apply you go through a training class for blackjack and a few other novelty games like Carribean Stud ( May differ from casino to casino). Then as you get better you move on to other games like roulette and craps. Poker is usually one of the last games you learn but some casinos may start you off at poker but I doubt it.
It took me about a year and a half to get to deal all the games.
Hope this helps
Can u you tell me more about the CPT here in Vancouver...that is cost, location, etc...
thanks
Edgewater Casino, Vancouver, BC - *Event dates not available at this time.
River Rock Casino Resort, Richmond, BC - *Event dates not available at this time
according to the CPT website
ow dee...for CPT, the first thing you need to do is register..here is the link
http://www.canadianpokerplayer.com/cpt/forms/CPT%20Player%20Registration%20form.pdf
and if that doesnt work go to www.canadianpokerplayer.com and you will be able to find it there. Either fax the registration to the fax number on the bottom or to the nearest designated casino which will be holding a CPT event and drop it off there. As far as buy ins are concerned I havent heard of anything yet, but im guessing the buy ins will be ranging anywhere from $200 - $500 buy in's for the events but dont quote me on that, once I find out the correct buy in I will be sure to post it.

I worked as a dealer and supervisor for the better part of 5 years and it definitely had its ups and downs. Some of your assumptions are accurate - late shifts are rough, casino atmosphere takes its toll. Some other things to consider - Good pay, although you are standing for 8 hours at a time. You get a real taste for how easy it is to win or lose by watching people do just that. I personally got tired of seeing people blow their pay checks at my tables or in my pit.
As far as 'watching' the game as it goes, assuming you get to dealing poker, You have some other things going on while you work (ie - the job is not quite brainless) and it is tough to really get into the game as you work. I mean to say that yes, you get a sense of the game from being there, but you are busy and can't really study things.
Other than that, I think it's a good job and although I moved on, it was a good time for me. It does limit you in the amount you can or wish to play, though, so be aware of that. As far as the hot chicks, please don't fool yourself. It's like a strip bar. First of all, most of the girls are attached in the first place. Second, flirting is part of the job (even if you're staff). Lastly, most girls in that kind of role just naturally don't look to the workplace to date. I am not saying not to try, just don't make that a factor in your choice.
Cheers.
