Sucked out at final table.

Playing my weekly freeroll (live) tonight

At Final Table blinds are 20/40k and I have 85.

Pocket 9s all in two callers.. Ace 7 and Ace Jack.

Flop.. Queen, King, 6.

Turn a 9

River 10.

Kind of Ironic since I hit a 10 on the river early in the night to win me a big pot.

Just really sucks.. win that hand I'm in the money...

1st: 470
2nd: 290
3rd: 190.

Thought I played well.

  • You had 85K with a BB of 40K? How did you get that low? If you hadn't just lost most of your stack to a shorter stack then you should have been pushing wayyyyyyy earlier. How many chips were in play total?
  • Heading into Final Table I had around 120K or so.

Blinds just took some.. I couldn't make a move with the cards I was getting... at least I don't think so.

    King 2, 8,3, 9,5.. I did get one ace,3 but I dunno..

Chip leader when I went out was mid 200k? the two guys that called were right with me give or take 5-10k.

It was a long time before final table as well with 5-10k blinds.
  • imo if you let yourself get blinded down from 12BB to 2BB without pushing ANY 2 cards much earlier you have a lot to learn.
  • 12 BBs?

    it was 40 BB..

and well that's why I'm here to learn.

You said you had 120K with BB at 10K, that's 12BB.
  • Oh jeez.. yeah I screwed up again.

Levels were 10/20 to start final table.. then about 2 hands into it moved to 20/40

I was in seat 5 so BB hit me with 40k.
  • That would be a pretty big jump 10 to 40 wouldn't it? ^-^:o
  • Pay close attention to what Comp says. He has SEVERAL decades of experience (these old guy jokes never get old).

Poker's a complex game. Part of it is the cards in front of you, but part of it is relative chipstack. Doubling up with next to nothing doesn't mean much other than twice next to nothing.

Loads of info on here to learn from. Go back through the strategy threads and just start reading. Even if it has nothing to do with you or your game, you'll learn something. Always interesting stuff to read.
  • I'm listening.. will take any advice I can get.

Not sure if your double up comment with nothing was about my hand but just to clarify had I won the hand I would have been chip leader.. or a very close second I believe.

Also I'd like some feedback on another hand if it's okay.. This is the best of my knowledge the bets may be a little off but the cards are the same.

Just a little background this hand is fairly early into the game about an hour or so..hour and a half (It went on for six hours last night.)

    Blinds are 300/600..

I am SB and I have 4 5 of Clubs

I call since I have my discount.. battle of the blinds I believe.

    Flop is

    AC, 2D, 10C

I bet (really don't know how much.. I know that's a big part of the hand but I just can't remember), he calls.

Turn is a 7 of Spades.

    Some small bets.

    River 3 of hearts.

I'm all in 26K... He calls I turn over my straight and he is irate.. "fucking donks that is the only way he can win" (Mind you this was the very first hand he sat down at the table..never played with him before.) and he keeps going on starts to throw more personal insults at me..even goes after my clothes, I am pretty fuming on the inside though I don't show it I just say "calm down"

Now once again I don't think I played this hand badly at all given what was on the board .. couple other people on the table said it wasn't that bad given my flush (and straight draws)

Maybe because I made it on the river, big deal fuck that guy just pissed me off...

With his 3 or 4k left he promptly got knocked out the very next hand while I was counting his chips.
