Port Perry Mini Tournament
I was just wondering if anyone has been to one of the Port Perry NL Mini Tournaments they have every wednesday?
If so, how busy is it? How long does 1 session last? How many sessions do they run?
Thanks,

What is the competition like. I figure the regular tables are lower limit stuff and that a lot of the regulars aren't overly interested in playing these tournaments. Is this more of a beginners, come one come all type event?
thanks guys,
then again i can't imagine it is tough competition...

For my 19th birthday (three weeks), I might head up there with some university buddies to meet up with our other friends and try playing in those tourneys. 8)
Thanks for the heads up.
I agree with the first part, but a 10% house drop for a B&M tournament in actually very reasonable.

The Good
- the house charge is very reasonable ($550 in entry fees they take $50 so that is 9% house charge) Most online sit goes have a higher charge.
- winner take all (deals can be made)
- invest $50 to win $500 (great return on money for a 1 table freeze out)
once again consider an online sit and go. 1st place would be $250
-from what I saw the day I was there players play very poorly( too loose in the beginning and too tight at the end) eg. 4 handed a player has 80% of his chips in as the big blind and folds to a raise. I saw that sort of thing happen many times.
- The winer has the option to stay for the next game without being on the list.
The Bad
- blinds double every 10 min
- the list was long the day I went
- the dealers have to wash and count the cards after every hand ( this really slows things down in fact i started the tournament as the button with blinds of 1 and 2. When the big blind got to me the blinds were 4 and 8. We had two increases in blinds and hadnt had one complete round of the table yet. lol
I havn't decided if it is worth my time to play in these mini tournaments.
Just in case any one is curious I played 2 that day and was out early in both of them. I had AK against AA in the 1st one. AK against QQ in the 2nd
Am new to this board and haven't been playing for long (Year and 1/2)
However I do find the mini tourneys at the blue heron exciting (maybe cause am a newbie to the game).
This is what I wrote about the Blue Heron tourney in a non-poker forum:
I love this place but...
This is the only place that I play at and now my loosing streak is at 3 weeks...lol while my buddy's winning streak is 4 weeks with a decent net profit.
If anybody recommends other places for a student of the game please do so. I only play no limit and I live near the Durham area.
Cheers
