Anybody sail?

We had been looking for a family boat all last spring/summer, and finally came across a great trade last fall...traded a complete set of scuba gear (a spare set of mine) for a 20' sailboat. Sleeps 4, twin keel so we can get in close to shore, and easily trailerable...and hey..it's good on gas!
So..what I am looking for now, and wondering if anyone has/knows of a good supply place for all the required safety gear. Need a two pfd's (kids already have theirs), and boater safety kit.
Any recommendations for the pfd's? Thinking on the Mustang inflatable type so they don't get in the way while moving rigging and what not...is there a better type for sailing?

  • All I got from this was a massively awesome brag for trading what is essentially flip flops for a boat. Well played sir.

As to your question, I'm fat and thus am my own PFD so I can't help you here.

lol..yes, it was a good deal, but they were hardly flip flops.. ;)

I just don't know that your regular run of the mill pfd's are that good for sailing where more movement is involved? I see a lot of very fancy sailing pfd's (for racing) out there, but don't know that those are necessary.. Would like to buy something before our sailing lessons begin, and not be looking for something different after the first weekend on the boat.
