Celebrity Poker Showdown?????
I really have to ask if anyone watches this show. I have to say the poker played on this show is terrible.
This comment is based on, in Toronto City TV has dropped the WPT in favour of this. IMO, this sucks.
Anybody else outraged enough to email them? programn@citytv.com
The only thing I see that is good about Celebrity Poker showdown is A) it is poker and Phil Gordon does a respectable analysis on the hands they are playing and how they should be played.
Just needed to vent!

I not sure that City has dropped the WPT. I think the WPT season they're currently showing simply ended. (Although I'm not too sure since I don't remember seeing the Season 2 final episode myself.)

EDITED to add that Scotty Z types much faster than I do obviously.
The best review I read about Celebrity Poker Showdown is that it is "geared more towards Holly Homemaker than Frat House Freddie" or something along the lines.
Still better then most of the crud on TV today.
Best one liner was delivered in season one when "can't remember his name" busted out to Norm Macdonald on one of the first hands. He tells the host it felt like the first time he had sex and the host replied "Well you certainly did ejaculate your chips all over Norm Macdonald!" LOL
Although I haven't exactly fallen in love with Celebrity Poker myself, I don't hate it as much as many poker players seem to. I've seen a few surprisingly good plays here and there. However, it's often something like:
Celebrity A makes an amazing bluff, so that Celebrity B can't possibly call with only 3rd pair.
Celebrity B calls with only 3rd pair.
Unfortunately, in these kinds of hands it's usually hard to say if A's play is genius or recklessness, and if B's play is genius or calling stationness.
I think a great episode of CP would be celebs (other than "poker celebs") who happen to play poker well. (e.g. Ben Affleck, Tobey Maguire, etc.)
i'd rather watch the OC
Yeah, I agree . I kind get the impression that sometimes Phil Gordon is thinking, WTF was I thinking, agreeing to do this show with Dave Foley. Some of his comments are so lame, that the look on Phil G.'s face is like, "Would you please STFU!".
Haha.
Haha.. I must agree with you. But think about it this way, if they don't make a mockery of the Holy game of POKER, they CAN'T raise enough money for the poor and the needy. In some cases, they do play a couple of good hands and in some, lol.. they CAN'T play.. For the love of POKER and the love of mankind.. lol.. i think we should just sit back and enjoy the SHOW a bit..

Dave Foley is funny and the Commentary is interesting to listen to. Plus because it is celebrities my wife watches it with me and I "don't" have to go watch poker on the bedroom TV because she is watching "White Trash people beat up on other White Trash people" (yes she is a talk show TV Junkie to my shame).
I do agree the poker is bad, bad, bad. However have seen season 1 thru 4 I can tell you that the playing has gotten better.
I'm just glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read this. lol And I do watch it, more for the comedy though, not the poker skill.
soooooooooo bad......mostly washed up ppl with the occasional big stars/actual players (only one that comes to mind is affleck from season 1 of CPS)
or any gigs going on...
maybe this is the only way they can get on tv again LOL
"Celebrity Poker Showdown can be a useful poker learning tool in terms of understanding the psychology and behaviours which motivate amatueur and/or semi-serious players' poker decisions."

well played some poker too but didn't do too well :frown:
Jennie Garth was on the show
*sigh*
Maybe they'd script some decent lines. Or teach them the game.
great for beginners (come on admit it, yiou're a beginner )
