New saying -- offensive?

For those that haven't read Dave S.'s thread on showing cards, I strongly believe that one should never show their cards. So often people will ask what I have. I politely say, I don't show my cards and I hope they don't mind.

Then if they have half a personality, I generally say, "you know I'm like a hooker, I only show if there's dough, and if there isn't I pretty much tell you what you want to hear"

Last week the guy to my left was a character, and we were having alot of fun. One hand we're heads up, and he says "hey we're neighbours, let's check to our neighbours, check down to the river". I say "well you know I'm like a hooker, so I pretty much screw anyone if they pay" and bet away. Got a few chuckles, but I'm wondering if anyone would think that's offensive?

  • A hooker might...
  • Well, Magi, I heard YOU SUCK so the hooker analogy might just work...

I don't find it offensive. I think it depends on the mix at the table. I swear a lot but only once I feel comfortable with those around me. It is hard to believe but I am sensitive to those around me.
  • Maybe I'm some kind of poker purist or something, but your opponent trying to manipulate you into checking it down is more offensive to me than your comments. :)

(But I found neither thing terribly offensive.)

    Nice bet.

  • Did you win the hand?
  • Yep, I won the hand. He folded the the turn, and I had the goods. Interestingly, I hadn't thought about how offensive it was that my opponent was trying to get me to check down the hand, as he was pretty weak. He was weak/tricky, but since he was weak, I really didn't pay attention to his tricks. Thanks for the tip Scotty.

  • i think the opponent pulled a decent move, by asking to check it down if he was on a draw. he wanted to try to draw out for free. you smartly didn't accept the offer.
