Dutch Boyd for sale on ebay -- May the stupidest bidder win

Anyone want a piece of Dutch Boyd for the 2005 WSOP? You can bid on a percentage of his action on ebay.
Check it out:

However, Brett Jungblut -- former member of "The Crew" -- appears to have had a falling out with Dutch and has cautioned bidders to be wary of Mr. Boyd in his own auction. Follow this link:

It's all very humourous to me. I'm just waiting for Scott Fischman to auction off a "bad beat" or something. I wonder if Joe Awada would be interested...

  • Too funny. There's actually one bid. WTF????
  • it worked for raymer, so why not dutch? lol...ONLY IN AMERICA

my question to dutch would be if you're so successful, as he claims to be why do you need people to stake you? also the crew is so shady it's not even funny, as Brett has further illustrated by distancing himself from them.
  • I have sold 40% of myself for the 2005 WSOP. Selling interests is not uncommon. It lowers my cost (although I was willing to foot the whole $10K myself) and, more importantly, it makes the journey more fun. THis is, however, not a comment about Boyd's motivation or the scathing comment of Jungblut. Simply a comment about why evern successful players may sell pieces.

Boyd may be 20% in the money... I am 100% in the money (three attempt is probably not statistically significant mind you).

mind you 100% even for 3 is significant enough that i would invest in that :)
  • I got a piece. I figure if he nets one million dollars then I have an entry fee into the 2006 main event.... Gooooooo Dave!!!! Goooooo one million dollars!!!!
  • what's the top prize at this event, it's not even a major event is it?
  • Dave is referring to the main event of the WSOP 2005. I expect top prize will be around 6 million dollars. I could be wrong, but I think Boyd was selling pieces of himself for the main event of the WSOP circuit tournament, which just wrapped up. First place was around 750K I think.
  • Winning bid: US $152.50 (Approximately C $186.63)
  • you still selling shares dave?
  • Sorry, sold out. Actually, sold a little more than I meant to. Oh well, I can live with 60% of $6 million.

    I'm guessing more like 15.

60% of 3 million once the IRS gets their paws on you :) Actually, out of curiousity do Canadians get most of that back if they get a tax lawyer?

As I understand it, it's 70%, and yes if you replace "most" by "all" in the 2nd part. However, making a claim to get your US withheld taxes returned will likely be noticed by the CRA. :)

Search this forum for "taxes" and you'll find some previous discussion of this.

  • If you win $5 million you are not getting it all back. No way.

Rumour has it that they are capping 1st place at a low amount like $6 million and spilling the money much deeper. I predict that the final table will each get $1 million.
