Could I have gotten any more money out of this?

ok i was playing at a casino last night. I was in position 3 (just after the big blind). I had pocket 10's and was playing on a NL table where the blinds were 1/2.

I immediatley raised to $10. I had 3 calls until someone raised to $30. a couple of folds, then one guy called and i called. Everyone else folded so we are 3 people left in a $120 pot hand. flop comes 10, 4, 2. I pretend to think, then I checked. The next guy grabs his stack and sprinkles $30 as his bet (I took this guy for $100 a few hands ago, so i think hes on tilt, but I also saw he has played terrible cards during the 2.5 hours i played). the next guy calls quickly. i hesistate and start counting out chips and pretend to wonder how many i'd have if i called. i then reply; " I'll see your $30 and re-raise $91 all in".

the guy who started the betting looks at me funny and wonders what the hell i could have. He folds, but the other guy calls.

I flip over the nut trips and he flips big slick. I was thinking what the hell is this guy drawing for? Q,J? even if he paired aces i'd have a bhoat and he'd have trips.

anyway, the dealer passed me all my chips and i had people scared to call my $10 bets.

you think there was a way to keep both in for my $91? perhaps a reraise of $30 after the flop, $30 bet on the turn and $31 after the river?

Thx. Mike

  • if no flush draw on the board, you may have wanted to smooth call the bet and push on the turn.... but then if the turn didnt improve anyones hand, you may not have gotten the all in call...

i think you should be pleased with the results of it though

Why Hollywood here? Just check at your normal pace.

At any casino I've been in, this binds you to the action of calling $30, which I tend to think is the right play anyway.

You've got two players in this pot already betting & calling $30 on the flop. This clearly begs for a slowplay. I'd just call the $30, and open with a check on the turn whatever falls. The pot is now too big compared to your stack to attempt to protect the pot on any street, so the goal should be to maximize value.

If I had any chips left by the river, I'd move all-in being first to act.

IMO, you simply got lucky to get a horrible call from the AK for the extra $91. I think you'd generally be better off letting one of your opponents take another shot at the pot on the turn.

  • There's NLH in Toronto casinos?
  • i would have slow played, on what was a generally unscary board

Well, Niagara has a NL game. Check the B&M threads for Fallsview Casino I think. Something like a min $50 buy in max $300 NL. No casino's in Toronto (that the gov't is a aware of anyway... other than charity)
  • There is different versions on NL at fallsview. The other night some poor sap lost $1335 on a single hand. Dont know the details but it was a huge pot. something about pocket jacks and a str8 on the turn. I think the guy had trip jacks and got smoked by a str8.
  • I might have floated a bet on the flop. The pre-flop actions leads me to believe that with a flop like that I will get callers or, better yet, raisers behind me. The goal with your hand is to get your opponents committed to the point that you will get ALL their chips. Bet-raise-reraise is a more likely pattern to get all of their money into the pot if that pattern is available to you.

Nonetheless, great result. I think slow playing to the turn is also fine. A flat call on the flop might look like you are fishing with A-K and you might get one or the other of your opponents to fire on the turn.
  • I'm a limit player, but why not make it $60 when the $30 bet comes back to you? I think both would call. Then bet out $30 on the turn, that AK guy will call this bet for sure, then $30 more on the river where the pot is so big both might call the $30 even if they haven't hit.
  • thanks for all the replies. i guess i didnt want to get out drawn by slow playing.

i was playing at the seneca casino in buffalo.
