Badbeat at Fallsview....how do you play this?

so i was at fallsview last night playing the 2/5 game. i consider myself semi-aggressive. i have the dealer button and get KK. UTG limps for 5, HJ makes it $45 (ultra conservative older asian player), everyone folds to me and i make it $145 total. i have about 600 to start the hand. action is on HJ and makes it $250 for me to call. i know most ppl would push here but i just made the call b/c i was 50-50 on whether he had qq or aa. the flop came K 8 4. He thinks a moment and checks it to me. i kind of hollywood a little and make a face like why would you check?.....40 secs later i said i'm all in. it was a monster pot, and he's grimming whether or not to call. But when he checked i was 100% sure he had aces considering his nature of play. He calls (obviously, i don't know how many can fold there) and i take it down.

Out of everyone the dealer said it was obvious on my part that i had kings after i just called his 4 bet preflop. i would assume the same but i did get an interesting analysis from one player. He said he would have laid down the aces. so my question is would you play the kings the way i did? and would you lay down aces, keeping in mind that my range is pretty broad and i have the dealer button. i raked in about 1400 in total from that pot i had him just covered.

  • I didn't understand a little bit (surprised?) When you say you are 50/50 on whether he had aces or queens, are you gonna read his hand post flop? Did you account for kings too?....or did you not ship pre because you didn't want him to fold queens?

Just calling the 4 bet pre, does not mean kings, that sounds silly. Everyone thinks they would fold aces. If you knew he had aces and they have you on qq+ you prob shouldn't shove that board unless your sure he will call....

your range is wide on the button but not really when you 3bet a tight player and call his 4 bet...
  • no i didn't put him on kings at all.......he pretty much played big hands. that's why i put him on queens/aces. but the way he checked on the flop made be believe he had aces and was concerned about me having kings. the reason i didnt ship preflop is b/c i was a bit weary of aces. i hit a king on the flop so it worked out for me and his check assured me he had the aces and i almost had a feeling the way he was playing he'd fold but it's tough to lay down aces.

    1) Not sure why this is a bad beat.
    2) The dealer needs to stfu. Not his place to let everyone at the table know that by the way you played you had KK.

'cause he put a bad beat on the other guy. But to me, this is just a cooler, not a bad beat.
