Tilt - the series

This new series by ESPN is premiering tomorrow night. I would love to see it - so if anyone knows where I can grab the episodes on the net, post them in this thread.

This looks like it could be a good show - it is staring Michael "Mr. Blonde" Madsen....

  • thanks for the heads up...

I saw a post on another site where someone actually saw the first episode a week ago or something, and they said it was awesome, way better then he expected.

    whoooot..
  • ya, i'll be looking for this show online.... it's for sure not being aired in Canada anywhere right?
  • A friend of mine was an extra there. He played poker against Mr. Blond for 5 hours. And they hired hooker actresses. He was happy.

If you can see the show, he is the redhead guy in the Hawiian shirt and hat.

ESPN is now making scripted shows about poker???? Anyone else have a problem with that?
  • I'll only have a problem if it sucks. But if its good - then I don't see any problem. I loved "Rounders" because it was very entertaining, the same way I hated "Shade" because it sucked shit. In the end, its just entertainment right? Would you rather watch a cool, funny show about gambling, or the O.C.?

Good scripts, good writing, good acting, sweet-ass babes, nice soundtrack - if it has all these I am sure it will be a hit with the millions of poker players out there.

This goes without saying that the poker playing has to be accurate and believeable (i'm guessing they have some experts involved in legitimizing the story lines - especially if they show any card play at all).

What I am positive they will do is have a pretty broad range of characters to that every viewer can identify with one or another... I.e. math geek, degenerate guy, shady hustler guy, asian mafia dude, hot single mother etc...

Only time will tell - I'll gladly post a review once I have seen the episode - hopefully someone can find some torrents for it...
  • this is crap, Tilt is produced in TORONTO!! But we don't get to watch it in Canada, what gives...
  • Would you rather watch a cool, funny show about gambling, or the O.C.?
Sadly, that is a close decision for me....
  • so any one know a torrent for the show

that's what i was gonna ask..

  • TV Torrents

later tonight actually after it airs.....i used this site to download a lot of tv shows that i miss when im at work slaving away :p
  • I watched it last nite. Wasn't too bad, it kept my attention. So many little sub plots and poker angles goin on. Massive repeats on ESPN, they even reran it right after the initial airing! lol It filled my poker fix, as i haven't seen much new poker anything in the last few months. Still waiting for the final poker superstars shows.
  • it was OK.
    6.9/10
they are definitely building to something - it is well shot and the cinematopgraphy is top notch

i agree, i'd give it more than 6.9 though. Definitely well shot and ya, they are building to something. I loved the 12 year old girl thing, that was funny.
  • Did anyone see guy with hawiian shirt and red hair? I didn't get a chance to see it.
  • I haven't seen the show yet, but here is what Daniel Negreanu had to say about it:
I was anxious to see the first episode of TILT last night and I was pretty shocked to see that ESPN would air a show that won't help their long term goals of promoting a WSOP tour. Painting us all as gun slingin' cheats, crooked casino bosses, and all around thugs isn't the best way of selling the public on the WSOP being a contest of champion poker players.

Yes I know I did a cameo in the show... but man, I never expected them to go out of there way to show poker in the most negative light possible. With poker's growing popularity it was a given that it would receive more scrutiny and this program will certainly add diesel fuel to the fire. The show I saw last night is absolutely nothing like any poker world I've seen or been a part of.
  • Ouch - that is some damning commentary from Daniel (who, BTW, could tell me that Apocalypse Now was a cheeky musical, and I wouldn't doubt him for a second).

I still haven't seen this yet either, but it looks like they just hollywoodized all the grimey stuff taking the drama past reality - which is no shock. I watched a few episodes of the other ESPN show about football called Playmakers, and in the first 5 minutes of that show, the running back was doing tones of coke 10 minutes before the game started...

ESPN should be focusing its original programming efforts into reality TV anyway, since its so hot right now. Actually should have just called it "Tilt: The Mike Madasow Story" and then they could have followed him around with cameras and given him drugs and gambling money and shady women, and there's your show! Dude - that's a hit right there, i'm telling ya.

Then top-level producers could go and "doctor" the events like they do on Survivor and Amazing Race, and get Mike into extra-crazy situations, you know, stack the deck on him in a final table situation so he suffers a series of one-outers in a row, and then goes beserker style on Gus Hansen, but Gus puts him in some old Danish Viking death grip and Mike leaves in tears again!

C'mon - that show would be awesome. Too bad he is in jail.
  • Just finished watching it...Its fairly cheesy but entertaining, not a bad way to spend an hour every thursday.

I find the actors attempt at sounding like poker players is too blunt, it seems like they are trying to hard.

Actually, it does sound good to me. You can even make it a prison game for smokes and some guy on horomone pill's favor.
