montreal casinos/card rooms?

i might be heading out to quebec for a month this summer. i'm wondering if anyone has been out there and has an opinion on the casinos/card rooms.

i know there's a casino in montreal (which is where i'm most likely staying), and i think there's another one near by (possible on a reserve?). anyone know anything about these places?

i'm mainly looking to play some $1-$2 no limit but no higher than $2-$5.

i'm assuming that there are card rooms in quebec as well. anyone know any good places? what's your preference between casino or card room?

any links to specific websites would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

  • I played at one card room on the reserve a couple years ago (1/2). I think things have improved quite a bit now with Four Aces Poker Club, etc. It was a decent club, I just remember tons of security. I think they are a much better option than the casino. Likely less wait time.
  • go to Playground Poker Club, the rakes are the same as the Four Aces, but they have taken over the poker scene from what my Montreal friends are saying, 11 cash tables going this Thursday, they sold out their $200 Deepstack well in advance while the other guys had only 41 show for the first day of their series yesterday.

Awesome food, shuttle service for groups of 4 or 5, hot waitresses, etc. etc.

i was searching online and came across their website. apparently they just opened up recently i think. looks pretty nice from what i can tell. and i think this place is only 15-ish minutes from montreal.
  • casino montreal is where you want to play imo.

    may i ask why?
  • lower rake more tables (allowing you to table select) open 24/7 and they don't rake $25 on their hs games like the other scams errr i mean poker rooms in montreal
  • Just visited all three clubs on the Montreal reserve. Playground Poker Club by far has the most action and liveliest atmosphere. No comparison, the other 2 clubs have no problem admitting it either, they commend PPC for the aggressive approach they have taken in getting players in. That said, both Four Aces and Snakes were also very nice rooms.

The room lighting is kept darker at Playground, with bright lighting focused on the felts. Some players say they like this, myself I liked the brightly lit room in Four Aces and in terms of overall appearance and room to move about, hands down the 4 Aces was the best of the three, their restaurant was very classy in appearance, but again, Playgrounds Rail has the Best
menu and the vibe, had a Boston Pizza Sports bar type vibe, lots of people having fun. As much as I liked the look of the Four Aces and Snakes restaurant, it felt more like a place you would take a date, not hang out with poker buddies and party. Also just eerily quiet, the waitress and bartender would definitely be privy to any conversation

Snakes also had a nice restaurant and cash game wise had more action than 4 Aces, this being a Sunday night, not sure if it holds true all the
time. The room is smaller than the others, but neat and clean in it's design, big TVs with tourney info, kinda like TI's in Vegas if I had to
    compare, not jamming, but cozy.

Playground had the best when it came to tourney info and sports on big screens, no comparison again. Also spreading more variety.

Going back to the rake, food and drinks in, especially if you are playing 1/2, non issue, the plates were huge, good quality meet and seafood, you get it back in the end.

Going to try to stop by casino Montreal on way back from Foxwoods....
  • thanks for the report jontm.
  • Can someone list the rake/stakes/buyin's/limits/game's spread etc. for the various.casino's?

I understand the rake is too high in Montreal, Can anyone quantify?
  • Got an answer of FB for Playground, someone just asked same and from what I understand this is roughly same at all three clubs:

    Playground Poker Club ‎1/2 8$ 10%
    2/5 14$ 5%
    5/5 14$ 5%

  • this might be a stupid question, but what is the official language at the tables? i'm assuming that in ontario it's only english allowed. same in quebec? or is it french?

    What does FB stand for?

Wow, that rake sounds unbeatable. Is there also a bad beat jackpot theft?

What are the max buyin's at each stake?
