iTouch questions for the tech gurus . . .

Wifey just bought an iTouch. She says it has Wifi capability. Does this mean she can access the web at home without us having to get a wireless router?
Also, if she starts downloading to her iTouch, will that count against our home accounts bandwidth limits?

Sorry, but the most technical thing I am competent with is the microwave.

  • You still need a wireless router.

And yes if you get a wireless router and use the iPod Touch, it will count against your bandwidth for home.
  • It's an iPod Touch, not iTouch :) What Hobbes said. You can access areas with Wi-Fi. Obviously in a secure WiFi area, you will need the password. An iPhone can access the web (and other online features such as iTunes, email, etc) using WiFi or the cell network such as 3G.
  • Thanks, guys. I was pretty sure about the router thing, but not about the rest. Appreciate the edumication . . .

do you have a super restriction on bandwidth? with any isp here you would have to try hard to get kicked off for too much bandwidth use....i wouldn't think it would be an issue? maybe you have a lite package but i would still think this wouldn't matter.......

  • Sorry, I am probably using the wrong term. Our internet plan is good for 25g per month worth of downloads. We haven't had need for more, and frankly I do not want to have to pay for more . . .
  • 25 gig / month?

Wow... Mine's 120.... and I've had precisely one month where I didn't go over :P

ok i see, im always on an unlimited type plan so ive never dealt with that...you were correct. you could call them i think and ask what you use. an i phone isn't going to add too much...from what i could find heavy users use around 200mb... which is .2 of 1 gig.

  • Oh, I monitor our usage pretty closely, especially with an Animé loving 14 yr. old in my house. LOL. We're usually over 75% by the end of the cycle, sometimes topping 90%. I just don't want to have to bump up to the next level just so the wife can play with her new toy. Especially when all she wanted the damn thing for was music.
