K, rip me to shreds. I probably deserve it but don't understand why.

So, I've decided that my little $6.50 6max sng's are no longer for me. I'm going to try and break into the world of MTT's and will likely get my ass kicked for quite some time, but I understand that's part of the learning process.

My major recognized problem has always been bet sizing and I'm sure that's where I failed horribly here. Please offer advice on the below:

I'm also new to the MTT strategy section so I'm not 100% sure where to stop the hand history. I do remember that I'm not supposed to post the results so if I killed it at the wrong spot, just say so.

  • At the 4.40 level I 4bet shove pre. Guarantee the 3bettor calls based on his positioning.

What I mean is, you opened in EP and he 3bet you from MP. Doubt he folds his 1010+, AK.
  • Hate the call pre (but I can see your thinking) and the flop min bet was ugh!, but I hate min bets in general:)
  • I dont mind your flop play but I make it more. Minraises have a perception of superstrength.
  • Agree with Wetts here (surprise huh?). At this level, not likely he's folding anyways...
  • shoving people off your kings > playing 3 way post flop

even if they all fold you get a nice pick up, if they call that's great too.....

and you could post more of the hand history but its gonna basically play itself out here.
  • I'm not sure I like the flat call preflop. I'd rather see a raise to 1K-ish to see where you are, and to isolate the bethago.

That being said, your min-raise on the flop with 2 other players is kinda weak. Given the action, I'd shove to Zak's bet. Beth's call looks like A-Face of spade, or he's rolling you with Aces.
  • Thanks for the responses guys. Here's how it turned out. This is absolutely not a bb post, despite the fact the guy rivered me. I couldn't care less about that. Moreso about bet sizing. As I said before, this is a major leak in my game.

Ooops, I guess this should have been in analyze my hand as well.
  • maybe but your question has to do with bet sizing which is part of MTT strategy as well so I don't think anyone will rip you for that.

Hand might have gone the same way with a shove as some people really love their AKs and won't let go. I tend to agree with Comp who agreed with Wetts that you don't like inviting more people to join the post flop party but if they call a decent raise it isn't so bad as you have a great hand going to showdown. Don't think the AK was going anywhere with their 3bet pre so it would have ended up the same way but a shove would have probably killed off AQ- and invited in TT+.
  • at this level i shove preflop here after the reraise and call. might even get an AQ to call it (just like the other day against my kings in a similar spot - AQ spiked an A on the flop obviously).
