Yoda reveals pot odds....
I ran into yoda, had a chance to get his take on pot odds......
this is what i wish someone explained to me along time ago, obviously im still learning but this was a break through i think took me way to long to learn.
I realize there are still many ifs and buts I know, however this is like putting someones hand on the door knob i think.
It might not help but hopefully it will inspire others to solve the question of what are pot odds and how do i use them.
Hopefully others will post their own strategy blogs here and there once in awhile too......
If anyone wants to say something negative, start a new thread.
Thx for the help Yoda,
Darb D

Master Yoda, What is pot odds?
A scale it is. If heavier the left side is, call you must. If heavier is the right, fooooold.
Why do I need to learn to use pot odds?
Because…the Jedi code they are; if use this knowledge you do not, then playing poker you are not.
Listen to Yoda…Access to hidden powers they give, not accessible to those without knowledge of the great scale.
Once the student learns pot odds, without any further studying or effort, new unforeseen powers will arise.
But Yoda, if pot odds are so important why do so many players ignore them?
-Know what they are for, they do not
-Too hard the math is, they believe
-Confusing are their teachers (trained in poker they are, but trained in Jedi they are not)
-Tried to learn from too many instructors, they did
-Learned two different ways at once, they did
-Quit before finished their training did
-See the whole picture first they did not
So what is the whole picture, Yoda, and is it really hard?
The whole picture is here:
1. Understand pot odds
2. Learn pot odds
3. Use pot odds.
Easy is number 1, easy is number 2, easy is number 3.
HOWEVER, if skip a step you do, or change the order you try, impossible to learn it will be.
Ok then…what does it mean to understand pot odds?
You must know:
i) Calculating two things, you are
ii) Changing the 2nd to the same form as the first, you are
iii) And weigh them, you will.
That is all.
Alright, I get that Master Yoda, now how do I learn pot odds?
3 hands of your own it will take you, poker stove and windows calculator you will need (a hand where you must draw to a flush or a straight you should use):
To get the left side of the scale: by the amount you have to call, you divide the entire pot
To get the right side of the scale: use pokerstove you must. By your own winning percentage, divide your opponent’s winning percentage
If heavier the left side is, call you must. If heavier the right is, Yoda says fooooold.
I still don’t get it?
Knowing is not enough, you must apply! Practice one hand you did not!
Well no I didn't….but what about rule of 4 and rule of 2?
Clouded your mind is…….Ignore them you will; no more will you learn today.
Thanks Yoda…one last thing…how will I learn to do this live without a calculator or poker stove?
When ready you are, easy it will be, if Yoda is your guide.
,
lol do you know them? next is rule of 2 and four.
Night shift is lonely
