multipurpose table contruction questions

Sorry if this thread is in the wrong section, searching the term "table" on a poker site doesn't turn up many unique threads :p

I'm thinking of building a multipurpose table to use for poker and miniatures games, but I'm worried that the miniatures would wreak standard tops like felt.

I saw a nice table today on the toolmonger blog,

I was wondering if anyone had used a table topper like this before?

I'm thinking of starting with a 48" table as a test (and a test of my construction skills ;) )

  • I think the mat that this guy is using is really rubbery/thick material and I think it'd be hard to build a poker table and wrap it around to the back and stapling it in. If you just using it as a table topper, seems good to use.

This is similar to what some builders use, neoprene.

Then there is this I just found.
