some questions

Hi everybody,

I am a new member here on PokerForum.ca

I have been playing poker for a number of years and have recently wanted to start playing online to further improve my game. However I am finding that online poker rooms are not accepting credit cards (I am not sure if this is a problem with the Canadian credit cards/student credit cards/etc...). After looking into this, I found a number 3rd party service provides that will act as an intermediary between your credit card and the online poker rooms, however I am reluctant to use these.

If anyone has any information as to how to get into online poker play in Canada it would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for information like the acceptable payment method, most popular/trustworthy poker rooms, and particular strategy for players just starting online play with live poker experience.

Thanks in advance for everyone's time

Cheers,

Maks

  • For one time deposits you can use the vanilla (generic) mastercards found in most grocery stores. Or you can use instadebit which links your bank account to any poker site. If you are concerned, setup a separate US$ bank account that you use only for poker funding/withdrawels, etc. Moneybookers is great for moving funds between sites. You will probably get lots more suggestions.
  • so just to confirm, the fact that the credit card is not accepted with the poker sites has something to do with the fact that it is Canadian and not the fact that it is a student credit card?

Also, can you elaborate a little bit on the instadebit feature which you referred to?

    Thanks

Some CC companies don't want their accounts to be associated with online gambling sites and such.

If you are planning to play on multiple sites, you should open a MB account. It will make life much easier when moving money between sites and cashing out.
