NEVER bet a dry side pot...

I know the theory of never betting a dry side pot in a tournament. Why push someone out of the pot that might end up folding a hand that wouldve beat out the all in player when the short stack has a better hand at the end than you?

I think I found an exception...

We were deep in the money already (the player who I busted was the final table bubble). I flopped a full house but if the player who still had chips had a Jack I was the action; or had a higher pocket pair they might out draw me...

I know I know... monsters under the bed... but since I seem to always find the exceptions to situations - was this an acceptable move or did I potentially lose value in the long run?

I think you're implying that people care about busting a player and won't bet ace high here if they think they're ahead in the side pot and can take on the all in player uncontested <.<
  • If your plan is to maximize your profit by getting the other player to put more $$$ in the pot, why not check the flop. Your bet makes it difficult for the other player to call unless he has a J or an overpair, imo. Why not see if a flush draw gets there, and hope he tries to get you to "come along"?

The above is not necessarily good strategy, because I suck at this, but still . . .
  • You lost value.

I am even more disappointed in you that you were playing 55 instead of 88. :wink2:

The theory is to not bluff a dry side pot. Not betting a dry side pot when you have a hand is lost value.

+1. This for sure. If we're a long way off the money then I try to win the hand whatever it takes. I do not just "check it down" to eliminate a player at this point. However if we are on a significant money bubble I may.. Amazing how many players will call you grumbling about eliminating a player when you have a set or something similar. Create that side pot, get more value..
  • I'm prob checking or minbetting the flop, trying to get an Ace along for the ride.

I love it when the other guy (who is not all in) starts complaining at this point.. lol..

For the record, I was not complaining. :)
  • Okay, stop whining, then . . .

    when's the next Royal? :D
