Levels of thinking at the 2011 Fallsview classic.

I would like to get the opinions of the live poker community on deep stack live poker in this area. The fallsview poker classic is coming January. What do you think the quality of play will be like?

I have bought into the 1K and may possibly buy sat/buyin to the 2500 and take a shot at the 5k satty.

Do you expect to see floating, 4 betting with junk, river check raise bluffs etc. I know it will be at the 5k but what about the 1k and 2.5k?

If you played last year please share your opinion as the only decent deep stack I have played in the area was at great blue heron.

    Its live poker.

The 1k will be relatively straight forward poker imo.

Like the old fallsview reg in seat 1 is never 4 betting you with air.

Assume everyones retarded unless they prove otherwise.

I played in the 1K and it was very straight forward, basic play. The stacks were not deep enough to risk making too strong a move without a big hand. I honestly can't remember a 3bet that wasn't an all in shove.

    troof.
  • No real pros or very few. 1K is not worth their while IMO.
Pretty much like Wetts has said. Donks, Suk Outs and Bingo players who managed to satty in.
2.5k was won last year by Gavin Smith. pretty much shitfaced but on a roll.
I would expect Wetts and Prophet to money in this event. Both are quite capable.
  • What do you guys expect the top payouts to be for these? thanx.

    Think the 5K paid like 270K for 1st, 2.5K paid like 188K and the 1K paid 81K.

See here, fairly easy to find with that google tool... :) Even for an old guy.

Not a mucking clue. Depends on how many runners. If they cap out at 500
    1k 500000 prize pool
    2.5 k 1.25 mil
5k 2.5 mil If the winner gets half in these events that's a good paycheque. IMO
  • I would bet that, within the first three orbits, someone at your table will call a raise/re-raise/shove with two "pretty" cards. I will also predict that said players cards will SMASH the flop.
  • Thank you for all the feedback. I am surprised that you don't think there is more equity in the 1K. I know this will be a mine field but you guys and gals have mine detectors?

What I mean is that a 1k is alot in Ontario and you probably will get great ROI and alot of scared money playing. Compared to the Great Blue Heron fall/spring classic which is pro heavy.

So what are your plans folks play the 1k, satty into the 2.5K or 5K. Hey im just looking for people to go on dinner break with!

Agree with this but I think the field will be similarly soft to the GBH events.

Pretty sure anybody whos anybody will be at PCA, so that leaves the local regs to be picked at.
  • Great point Wetts. Let the 4 bet air ball begin!
  • Compared to the Great Blue Heron fall/spring classic which is pro heavy.
There are very few pros in $1K events in Ontario, including GBH, Brantford and Fallsview. Only the bigger buy-in events at Niagara Falls since 2006 were worth travelling to for most pros.

Many of the same locals who bought into the $1K GBH played in the $1K FPC in January, but with a lot more satellite winning donks. :-[ It wasn't long after the $1K event began that the Fallsview regulars kept busting out. After hearing a lot of so-called "bad beats", it was more like bad play!

Keep in mind that MTTs have very high variance, even when a lot of these mainly live players have huge fundamental leaks. A winning MTT shark can make the money in ~20 out of 100 $1K+ events, but that still means that he would lose his buy-in 80 out of 100 times, including probably the first time.

There has been surprisingly very few forumers that took shots at these local $1K+ events, but there may be more interest this year. Good luck to those who play!
  • im planning to buy in straight up into the tourney and from what i've heard its pretty soft even at the 2.5k level. i rmr a guy who was deep in the 2.5k tourney last year saying how he was heads up against gavin smith right before the break holding AKs and gavin re raised with 77 lol..the guy mucked lol......i dont care but i atleast ponder a call considering the chipstacks.

The question is, will you be coming out of the dungeon?

I am surprised that forumers are not chomping at the bit to get into the home satty's.
Steve kerr had most players from OPT (21 total ) not sure how many were not from his league.
I have 5 signed up for a week from Sunday. I know a couple of the regs are going to Windsor the weekend after.
IMO there is a better chance for a player who may feel they can't make it by going to the casino BINGO Sats to do it at one of the home Sats.
You have more time to think and the home games are geared toward the Tournament Structure.
Sat 1500 starting stack 15 min blinds.
Home 5000 starting stack 1/2 hour blinds. I may switch to 45 mins
depending on how many we get.
There are a lot of good players on this forum. I have heard a lot complain including myself about the lack of tourney's in this province.
Here's a chance to get into 1 relatively cheap.

The cap for every main event in the Fallsview Poker Classic is as follows:

$1000: CAP of 600 entrants meaning double the prize pool as last year.

$2500: CAP of 500 entrants meaning the prize pool will be increased by 66.66% this year.

$5000: CAP of 300 entrants meaning the prize pool will remain the same as last year.

Ultimately it all comes down to the amount of seats they sell for each tournament. The more the people the bigger the prize pool.

The following are the total prize pools for each tournament considering they sell all the seats:

$1000: $558,000 (five hundred and fifty eight thousand)

$2500: $1175,000 (one million one hundred and seventy five thousand)

$5000: $144,0000 (one million four hundred and forty thousand)
