  • I will always find it interesting that almost every Legion in Canada has a similar "free poker" weekly event. However a buddy of mine tried to set something up here at the Legion in Kincardine using his own tables, cards, chips, etc.

No money involved whatsoever. Nothing. Basically just a change from playing bridge or canasta or whatever, so the old folks could have some fun. He was in the process of trying to get some donated prizes.

It lasted two weeks before the RCL head office pressured the local branch to shut it down or they would be shut down. At least that's what they told him.
  • wonder if its regional?
I'm pretty sure a Legion in Rural Manitoba runs a Hold'em night.
  • Well doesnt seem to be an issue here. They have been doing it for years and I played with the same group in edmonton before i moved to red deer. They had it at 4 locations in edmonton on different nights. They are a good group and as long as there is no money transfer happening ALCB has no issues. I think they have over 100 locations across a number of provinces.
It's just getting going here in Red Deer and hope to have a big following since there is a lack of poker here (only one casino poker room)
Oh and to be clear, it's not only legion members that are playing. it's only the host location. Not to worry that its a bunch of senior citizens playing limp hold'em. All age ranges come by to play. I only recall a very small handful of actual legion members playing at the edm locations.
  • Tons of them hold NLHE events on a weekly basis. I've never played in them myself, but I know they exist. I know someone on the forum had a meetup site and was planning on holding some sit in poker tournament on the front lawn of the Legislature here in Ontario to protest the legislation addressing poker. Don't think it ever happened.

    Anyhoo, sorry for the threadjack.

We have several locations running in Ontario...Legions only in Alberta though. BC is pretty much anywhere we want to set up. (pubs/restaurants/legions)
