Which 'Poker Sites' are Canuck FRIENDLY?!?

Firstly I would like to 'Introduce' myself to this online community; joining this forum/community should have been something I did a long time ago.
Also, I would like to offer an opinion about some of the sites I have played on -- these are only opinions, backed by experience and as factual as perception allows.

FIRST: My name is Rik and I am a Fifty nearly Sixty something 'Proudly Canadian' male who is blessed in some ways and not so much in others.
Life on the West Coast of Canada is GREAT notwithstanding the fact that the time zone can play havock between my desire to play online and my sleep pattern!

I was 'inspired' to join a forum as a need to vent after several unsatisfactory experiences on a couple of sites that claim to be Canadian friendly ... I should have joined this site first and perhaps saved myself some aggrevation!

I have downloaded and played on several sites: PokerStars, Full-Tilt, Party Poker, Titan and Hollywood Poker.

PokerStars was the first I joined but I screwed up! I initially joined to LEARN and signed up on Pstars.com without making a deposit and tried to educate myself by playing 'pretend money' games ... yikes -- not on even the same planet as 'real money' games ... anyway, a few months later I moved to the Island from the interior and tried to make a deposit on the .com site and for some reason couldn't?! So, I discovered the Pstars.net site and thinking that that was the 'real money' site for poker stars tried making a deposit there ... I know I am sounding a little thick but my thinking was/is sometimes skewed by chronic pain issues ... so, I opened a new account -- thinking that would solve the problem -- Yikes -- wrong -- I played on both accounts thinking one was a play money only account and the other was for 'real money' games ... crap! A little later I was surprized to find myself 'Locked Out' and advised that I had broken the rules by having TWO accounts -- I did talk to someone at P-Stars and tried to explain what happened and wasn't offered a whole lot of 'sympathy' or 'empathy' for that matter and I became indignant and told them to 'Shove-It' and deleted my account(s) and the software from my computer MY BAD ... in retrospect Poker Stars was the best operated site I have experienced to date and my pain induced anger cost me the right to play ... I now read ALL the rules on a site before I agree to them! Too bad though that forgiveness and understanding don't appear to be part of their policy ... again -- MY BAD!

For the last three or four years I have waundered thru the mire of Poker sites and experienced a whole range and degrees of ineptitude and just plain bad attitudes towards members and yes ... Canadians'

My experience at HollyWood in a nutshell 'Mickey Mouse-ish' give me a break; Party-Poker to me seems -- well -- not much better BUT I do like the speed of the games; Full-Tilt seems to approximate the quality of play of my lost love 'P-Stars' ... but TITAN has got my goat!!!

You see -- when I am going thru an especially hard time in real money games (bad luck or bad play or interference by chronic pain), I like to play 'FREE-Rolls' which seem to provide some semblance of 'normal player attitudes' and way more than 'Pretend money' games ... anyway, I was disgusted to discover that Canadians are marginalized at free-roll tables on Titan!!! To the point that out of some Twenty-Five to Thirty freerolls available ONLY -- TWO(2) -- are available to Canadians or for that matter ANYBODY who isn't from Europe and in particular France -- who enjoy access to some ALL the free-roll choices -- CRAP ON THE WRONG END OF A STICK -- this from a site that advertises a particular affinity for Canadians'!!!! To add insult to injury my investigations INDICATE (if my powers of deduction are not totally lacking) that TITAN operates or is sanctioned by a CANADIAN NATIVE RESERVE  and for me ... to make matters worse ... I am a proud member of an Indian nation from Alberta -- Cree -- an Urban Native to be true but my brothers who allow this organization to operate on their territory need to remember that we are CANADIAN TOO!

Anyway, it was not my intention to offer a diatribe of this length BUT I did need to vent ...

If anyone can direct me to a Poker Site that is truly Canuck freindly and of equal importance fair to all its' members then please advise the writer ...

...PKR you say ... to my mind kinda 'HollyWoodish' ... can't even play with my points unless I want to start playing at 1 in the morning!!!

OH! and whats with ALL the sites (to my mind) that offer these BS 'deposit bonuses' ,,, you need to play 26 hrs a day and big money to get any of it ... better to offer little or no bonus and maintain a little integrity ... some of us have lives and like to eat, sleep and work once in a while ...

Cheers and may your HoleCards be playable ...

  • Meh, all of them are fairly international. PStars would be the most Canadian friendly just by size and volume of games, and the regional games they provide. Not to mention I find they offer the most freerolls (again, given their size it is expected). It is unfortunate that you cannot play there, but ultimately it was your own fault for not realizing that the software was the same and creating two accounts (notwithstanding that it was by accident).

Fulltilt is good, less volume them PStars but does have some regional tournaments and daily freerolls.

I played Party poker, but found it to be drying up. Not much of a fan for the software either.

I also have Cake, but again, it is European based and there are few freerolls or north american regional tournies offered. It also offers RakeBack, so that is another plus for it.

    PKR, never tried, can't say.

Titan, DL'd it, looked at it once. Not a fan of the software and the limited games offered.
  • On more then 1 occasion Ive been caught for having more then 1 account, at one point i had like 5. Never have they told me I cant play there, they just close all but 1 account, doesnt make sense to shut down business, maybe try to make a new account there?
  • Yes, when you are talking about tournys, I would go back to PStars.
That was pretty funny though that you would download a different software to play real money. That was great. Welcome to the forum.

  • My favorite sites these days are the smaller ones...Merge network (Gr88 mostly), 888, and will likely be checking out Betfair soon enough..just waiting on a deal ;) The smaller sites don't have as many freerolls, but they seem to be open to anyone..
  • I'd say that PokerStars is probably the best poker room for Canadians just because of all the country-specific and region-specific promotions that they do.
