This is actually quite an interesting post Dennis. All of my Father's siblings (7 brothers and sisters total) have either died from or are in the process of dying from advanced Alzheimers disease and dementia. My Dad is in the advanced stages of both. Obviously there's a genetic link of some sort so I have to be a little concerned of course.
When after 24 years I finally went to a doctor for a checkup a year or so ago, the subject of family history came up. When I explained my Dad's situation he suggested maintaining a hobby that involved mental exercise.
Since the gf was sitting with us I explained that I really enjoy playing poker to which he responded enthusiastically that this was an excellent hobby!
Gf groaned, but couldn't deny the logic and I am thus encouraged to play as much as I want within reason!
