Poker Magazine

Wanting to get a subscription or 2 to a poker magazine.. I have read PokerPlayer, Bluff, CardPlayer, and the WPT Poker magazines..

I like Bluff for entertainment value and I actually found the WPT one ( I have only got one issue of it ) had some really good technical articles in it from some online pros.

Wondering what ones you guys think are consistently good reads and good bang for your buck for a subscription..

I don't really care so much about the pro poker world, I more or less read the article pertaining to play.

  • I subscribe to Card player...but am looking for something else myself..I am not that fond of it. The hand match ups are way too much fill, and the value of the small tech. articles just doesn't cut the price I don't feel..
  • I like Poker Pro Canada :) But I my opinion may be influensed by my involvement. I will tell you that I am working hard to make sure it features our players and events.

Course it is free at card rooms too.

Yeah or special price for CPFers ;)

    What is your involvement?
  • Drop an article in it or 2, usually every month but I was tied up with Canadian Poker Player Magazine and missed a few, not working with CPT anymore though. Usually Canadian poker player profiles, destinations, event reports type of pieces but I focus on Canada. We did a cool profile on Steve Kerr and plugged CPF and Orangville Poker Tour in it. This issue Wetts1012 and Vekked are mentioned in the Canadian Open article. Like to try to give back, my hopes are people google the names and then it leads here or to thier sites. I threw other plugs to CFP players in CPPM where I could too.

As far as copies to Underground poker club, I'll throw it at them and ask if they wil consider a promo rate for subscriptions. From a business sense when you can reach a large community of players in a common place, it isn't a bad move, but up to them and always SCOOPS, as I want to respect his business and keep within the bounds.

Let you know what they say on both.
  • Who owns the magazine? I am confused.
  • Poker Pro Media does, who also does Online Poker Pro, Poker Pro (USA) and Poker Pro Europe. 3rd largest poker publication now. They said they will go another 25% off subscription price for PFCers so $32 for 12 issues instead of the $42 discounted website list. $8 cover price on racks.

Unfournately, the only safe way to get the additional 25% off is write a check to the editor, and put "forum promo rate" in the notes:

    John Wenzel
    Poker Pro Media
    5300 W. Atlantic Ave
    Suite 602
    Delray Beach, FL 33484

Calling the toll free number or on the web is $10 a year more and more convient, but hey, an american stamp and walk to the mailbox still keeps $8 to piss away on a draw or pocket 2's.....
  • CPPM is the other Canadian mag often found in casinos every 2 or 3 months, but I am not playing with them anymore  :bs: and they only deliver with $100 year CPT membership.

I am hoping to see an article creating some hype for the Slap Chop Challenge one of these days...

Did you write anything in the Sept issue of Poker Pro Canada? I got that one.
  • Nothing in September...
May with Daniel on cover: did the Big Slick Poker Tour write up and the Feature on the $25-50 PLO action in Calgary
June was the winner from Four Aces on Cover: did the Canad WSOP Gold picks Feature, Steve Kerr was one of the 5 players, each had a page. Also a small piece on Cross-booking to countinue $25-50 scene.
In July I did the interview with Antonio for CPPM and a few others in there
August was all about COPC, did a bunch in CPPM, Canadian WSOP notables and COPC history article
September I wrote the October Poker Pro Canada article on COPC
November have an article on Dan Fleyshman and Andrew Pantling (WSOPE), small WCOOP Canadian piece and previews for Regina, BCPC and Ceasers
Working on a few December pieces now....

    Feedback always appreciated.
  • slap chop challenge will find its way to print one day my friend Dennis....
  • Here is a few web versions of some of the Poker Pro Canada articles:

Dan Fleyshman and Andrew Pantling (it was edited slightly just before print so it doesn't make Dan appear Canadian, subtitle kinda botched it a bit and he is having fun busting my balls, but put it on his news feed, which is cool):

Dan Fleyshman featured in Poker Pro Canada magazine | Latest News

And the Event previews for Regina Harvest Classic, BCPC's and Caesar Windsor (which Caesar's was written from feedback here) along with Matt Jarvis cover story/interview, I didn't write but helped coordinate. The editors letter has interesting explanation of the November Nine betting lines. The PPC articles in print look way better with the photos though....

    November 2010
  • I don't know why but I can't stand Matt Jarvis.
  • Just read the article about the CPC in Calgary, sick to see mention of Wetts and Vekked in there, congrats to both for getting coverage like that.
  • Wetts and Vekked are great guys, I would have been happy to see Daryll ship it against Joel too, was a great HU match. Also had the oppurtunity to meet T8Urmoney, and Poker Kai a few times, great to meet forum members in person. And we can't forget Steve Kerr....
