Fallsview

Hey guys..

Just looking if anyone has any inside information as to whether or not Fallsview is going to have their Poker Classic again in January?

I called them but they couldn't tell me for sure if they were or not.. they just said they haven't received training for it.. so they don't know..

Just thought one of you guys might have the inside scoop.. I never played in it last year and would like to give it a go this year...

  • there was a rumour that napt might make a stop here but it went to la. i think there might be a wpt tourney based on what the dealer told me. but that also is not final considering they might go to bc for it. as far as i know there's an outside chance the next napt event is canada and wpt as well. both will come down to bc/fallsview. wpt was happy with the successful turnout a couple of years ago and plan to do it again. i know daniel negreanu was pushing for a napt event in toronto of a mini 5k type event.
  • sorry not toronto, fallsview!
  • I have made my return to the Poker room as a Floor Supervisor as of Tuesday night. Hold your applause, please!!

Fallsview will be running tournament(s) in January. Satellites will start running around Novmber 1 (+ or - a week). NO OTHER DETAILS are available at this time. Sorry.

Would have to assume this would be the same as last year with three tournaments running $1000, $2500 and $5000 buyin tournaments. They did advertise this last year as an annual event and is being run in the same month.
  • Hopefully it doesn't coincide with the PCA......

    Super Satellite!!!!
  • Fallsview is notoriously slow at getting things going. If they are playing it will be the first week of January. God only knows when the sattys start.

I just read the magic words to bring me out of retirement from live poker! And how many super satellites can I play for the $5000, $2500 & $1000 tournaments?

When anybody knows the satellite details, please post.

Too many good players.... He's like me, we like bad players..
  • I have heard they are running just after New Years and that the Sattys are going to start 1st week of November.
    SLOW SLOW SLOW...
I think it would make more sense to start these like a month or so ago to get more people into the seats.
  • Why doesn't Fallsview get together with TSN and cover the final table or the whole tournament? I'll offer to do colour commentary!

OLG rules about videotaping gambling are brutal. Look at how terrible the coverage of the Degree Poker Tourney was....(TSN FTW)

Didn't prevent WPT from covering 3 events there.

You like watching a final table of No-Names playing? I don't...

The coverage of the DPT had NOTHING to do with OLG regulations. It was a cheaply run event and not much was put into production. It was a freeroll after all.

The WPT events, on the other hand, look great on TV!

Degree was a bullshit lottery game that went from BAD TO WORSE and dissapeared.

Fallsview with all of their crap and the Goverment screwed up from what I have heard and we lost the WPT.
Total CRAPPOLA. They couldn't fill all of the events last time and probably won't this time..

But they couldn't videotape before the final table...

Why is it? This answer doesn't surprise me.

I like watching final tables with big money on the line. Considering all the shit poker that is shown on TV (see: any boring invite tournament filmed in England), this would definitely be more interesting to watch. Also, just because ppl are "no names" doesn't mean you can't learn from their play. As well, if "no names" are never shown then it's going to be pretty hard for them to become "names", isn't it?

Here's a question for you: If people knew this would be televised on TSN what do you think that would do for the number of players you would get? (see: old WSOP events televised vs not televised) How much spinoff revenue would you make from the extra friends/family in the casino? How much extra face time could Fallsview get on TV?

Seems to me like a win-win for everyone. This is probably the most important tournament of the year in Canada - it would be nice if it was treated like it.

Well put Sir. I would prefer to watch the no names who PLAY CARDS than sit a listen to some asshole shoot off his mouth about How Great he is and that no one at the table is even in the same universe as him. We know who I am talking about. lol
All of the British shows I like to watch even though most are Shootout style. I have said it before I just can't stand listening to Jessie May giggle like a sally for 2 hrs. Mute is a great thing.
Premier Poker is definately not Premier in my books.
They should tape and show these tourneys on Television. There should be more larger tournaments at our largest Casinos.
Back to the WPT thing for a second. These are the Cream of the Crop Tourneys that Casinos all over the world were and are still chomping at getting an annual event at. We had one that was pretty successful and What happened?
I know people I have spoke with all point fingers at Fallsview and the Provincial Government. And in my dealings trying to get some simple info on the classic noone Knows anything. Par for the course IMO.
  • I personally liked Live at the bike and also that poker show done by Johnny T and company. Like Ryan said there are times where you don't want to watch pros play and you want to see the average joe take a shot.

A reality show with no names every week if produced properly with guest commentary from some better known pros (Ryan once again - his commentary would be insightful) would help to better educate guys currently grinding.

Watching ESPN produced shows with commentators who are there for funny bits and simple poker language is boring. I rather watch a 1/2hr show with insightful commentary, strategy, ranges, etc. Almost like watching 1/2coaching video but based on a live game.

On a side note I have been actively researching cable access as I would like to do a 1/2hr show discussing poker in Ontario/Canada but bring in guests and people who are helping to make the poker community grow. Sorta like poker podcasts but a television show. Discuss local events/clubs (generally speaking, talk about trends etc) and then talk about the casino games/tournaments and the online world. My guests could then come in and talk about their opinions about the game, recent trends, insights into their game, bring in some examples of hands they played.

Viewers could submit hand histories just like here online, but do a live hand analysis on tv and draw upon that for further discussion.

Also having a panel on of different poker minds will help further the discussion.
