PokerStars Tsunami Relief

Just logged into Stars and I see they're doing a pretty cool thing... In the 'tournaments' section you can donate money to the Tsunami relief fund and PokerStars will match it, dollar for dollar. What an extraordinarily easy way to donate a bit of money to a good cause.

  • i donated 50 bones. Hope the money helps.
  • Yup, also gave a little of my leftover winnings to that pstars fund. They need all they can get over there.
  • they are in desperate need of blood over there and the red cross is giving some to them. Me and my girl are goin this week to donate
  • I think its great that Pstars is doing that but for Canadian who want to donate to the effort it would probably be better to give it to the Canadian Red Cross. Every dollar donated will be matched by the Feds and then you will also be able to claim it as a donation on your taxes. Then you could even donate the refund part back. Much more bang for your buck.

Minister Carroll later said that Ottawa will match cash donations to a number of Canadian organizations, retroactive to Sunday's massive 9.0-magnitude quake.

"We will match donations until January 11, at which point we will reassess the needs of the area," she told reporters in Ottawa.

The Canadian Red Cross, Oxfam Canada, Save the Children, World Vision and Medicins Sans Frontieres are among the groups included in the initiative, she said.
  • your right, I took it off stars and donated direct. Screw pokerstars, and screw Lee jones.

    Soooo.... you don't like PokerStars?
  • all_aces....was lurking on stars and noticed that you also donated $50 to the TRFD. That's awesome, anyone else donate money from an online source? Or otherwise?

I know Absolute poker has a tournament where it is 20+5 where they match the 5 and give 10 in total to the victims/survivors families.

Considering that poker has a fairly bad reputation at times it's nice to see that players/sites are involving themselves in the community. Just prior to Christmas Redington ran a tournament and asked everyone to bring a non-perishable food item or a toy for a non-profit organization that he had arranged to donate to.

Ahhhh, makes me feel all warm inside...really it does!

  • Something like this catastrophe really brings out the humanity in people. Worldwide fundraising is really adding up, from all sources too. It was nice of stars to match the total. It's good PR.
