  • Very nice!

    Well done and informative
  • I also enjoyed it, gave me a lot to think about to be honest. Thanks for the read.

  • Amy - great article. I think you may have saved me from some $. It is amazing what a little success at the tables can do for your confidence. However your article has and will cause me to reflect on what my limitations are at this point with poker!

    Thanks
  • Well written Amy. Makes me sit back and consider my own strategies, or lack of them, when I start playing. I don't intentionally want to be one of 'shoot from the hip' type of players. As a planner by profession, maybe I can incorporate some of those work skills into my playing. Excellent read, and I will be sure to visit some of those other links you provided as well.

  • Thanks y'all

You know Dave Scharf once called me "caution girl" - and I think its a nick name I'm growing into.

Well I'm heading to the World Poker Open tomorrow - where I vow NOT to bubble. Y'all be good while I'm gone.

  • Hello Oil Doe

If you get this.... I don't know if you know this or not. I recall reading an article shortly after Chris's big win, in which he states that he was in debt. He had normal living debts and gambling debts from many forms of gambling. He was down thousands on pokerstars, and in the article he said something like he talked his wife into letting him give it one more shot, and somehow won his seat. When you say he total invested only 40 dollars, i think u not being realistic. The fact that he had to sell so many of his percents was because he had no money. well im not trying to be a griefer at all. keep up the good work.

On a side not, Handling his fame is obviously tough as it also is for raymer.
  • Good article Amy.

I've also wondered about the large number of inexperienced players who venture into the online realm dreaming of instant riches instead of working for a living. Who didn't at that age. lol It's like driving a car though. Everybody thinks they are really good at that too. See how those self opinions get formed so easily. lmao

The bottom line I think, is play within your means. Keep a steady income from a job. If your game is good enough, the riches will come to you. You shouldn't have to chase them. There is a difference. If it means a mortgage payment versus poker, I always choose the mortgage.
  • Nice, I thought it was a good article!!

I could definately relate to the "picking your battles" statement and taking your time. And that fact that if you dont have the cash to go into that final tourney or that last tourney will clean your bank out, that the poker tables are not going anywhere and will always be there. Freshen up, build your bankroll back up to where it is comortable and try another tourney or other limits. I could relate since it was kind of the approach I took when first playing B&M tourneys...heck I came 9th and 13th in 2/4 tourneys I first entered and was happy that I cracked the money 2/4 times but realized that I wanted 1 st not 9th or 13 th and need to put in my time and make a plan of attack and also factor in my cash situation....anyways i'll stop rambling...

    Good stuff though!! :)
  • great article made me think a lot about my game and the MANY flaws that dot my poker horizon. ive read some of your articles before on pokerpages and must say you've got a great writing style
