River Rock Tourneys
Hey,
Has anyone played in any tournaments at the River Rock poker room in Richmond? If so, what are they like? (skill level, blind structure, etc.) I am particularly interested in how much play you get for your money. I absolutely hate tournaments where the stacks are shallow relative to rapidly escalating blinds [if the blinds ever double in subsequent rounds, it's not a tournament as far as I'm concerned]. I'm visiting my girlfriend's parents in Vancouver next week and I'm thinking about entering a tournament.
Thanks in advance,
Phil

btw, in January, all tournaments are freezeout tournaments (thats what they announced when i was there)
blinds went kind of like this i think:
25-25
25-50
50-75
(rebuy ended here)
50-100
75-150
100-200
100-200 ante 25
150-300 ante 25
200-400 ante 50
etc...
hope this helps
The tourneys have lots of guys just lookin to double up right away and you always hear about how so and so went all in...tonnes of cowboys. The rebuys and add ons are ridiculous in my opinion and wish they didnt have them since everyone tries to go crazy and it turns into an all in fest ( more money in the pot is the good thing though). If you play solid poker in the tounrey you will do fine.
The January tournaments are as follows (in case anyone is interested )
Wed, January 5th NL Holdem - $90+$10 (max 165 players) estimated prize pool $14,850
Sat, January 8th NL Holdem - $150+$15 (max 165 players) estimated prize pool $24,270
Wed, Januray 12th NL Holdem - $90+$10 (max 165 players) estimated prize pool $14,850
Wed, January 19th NL Holdem - $70+$10 (max 165 players) estimated prize pool $11,550
Sat, January 22nd NL Holdem - $250+$20 (max 220 players) estimated prize pool $55,000
Wed, January 26th NL Holdem - $70+$10 (max 165 players) estimated prize pool $11,550
Registration opens (2) days prior to event
phone in registration limited to %25 of field
phone in registration only available outside Vancouver
THERE ARE NO REBUYS OR ADD ONS FOR ANY OF THE JANUARY TOURNAMENTS
I was surprised by how many close limits they've spread simultaneously. 2-4, 4-8, 6-12, 8-16, 10-20..
played 2 days in a row...and had at least 4 of the same guys for most of both days.
and for the tourneys I always see the same guys..everytime!
I cant wait for the expansion of the coquitlam room..16 tables!!! and I wont have to drive to richmond!!!

It is worth noting, that in the tourney with the biggest buy in of the month, each player starts with 10k chips. I will win it this month, I feel it in my bones.
