HELP! Any Techies can help out this n00b?
Ok so I'm trying to hook up my 6 year old basic model compaq presario PC to my 8 year old Konka flat screen TV. The TV only has a S-VIDEO and RCA inputs.
My PC only has one monitor output. I bought a VGA - S-VIDEO/RCA cable, and the TV doesn't even pick up a signal. I tried about 10 websites through google to no avail. My current graphics card is a nVIDIA 6100SE and I can't even find out if it's compatible.
I tried the whole display settings function through control panel, and it only picks up one monitor, as I don't have a dual port for it. Can anyone help?

In case it isn't clear, VGA and s-video are completely incompatible systems. No simple cable can convert VGA to s-video. That said, there are some unused pins on the VGA connector. Some graphics cards use those pins to output s-video or composite video. But this is apparently a very small minority of cards.

Some laptops you need to tell it to utilize the output - generally this is FN (function) and one of the Fx keys, (F8 on mine). The icon usually looks like a monitor, or it'll say something like "CRT/LCD" etc.

damnit, definetely didnt account for this.... LAME! wasted 10 bucks on stupid raw cable.

Hey! My stupid knock off TV has lasted longer then some of the new LCD's! I'll keep her till she explodes then throw it off my balcony! Tube analog FTW! (except for this issue.)
