Any of these Vegas poker rooms worth checking out?

I plan on playing at PH (home base), Venetian and MGM. Have never been to any of the following poker rooms: Aria, Wynn, Mirage, Bellagio. Any worth the visit? Probably check out Wynn and Aria.

Mainly playing 1/3 or 2/5. Any other rooms on the main strip worth checking out? Thanks.

  • The aria is very nice, they have table side dining which is nice, and the play is fairly weak there i found.

that's something I have to be more aware of this time around. I have a good habit of checking my card in, but always forget on the way out. Happens everytime.
  • Most places use the Genesis bravo system. You sit down and they swipe you in. You leave to take a piss and they log you out until you come back.

  • Check out the high rollers in Bobby's room in Bellagio.......don't particularly like the poker room, but it's usually pretty busy.
  • I've played at all of them except PH; I'm not a big fan of that place, as it's smoky.

Venetian is by far and away the best, although last time I went the games were much tougher than every other time I've been. Still, it *is* a live game.

Wynn is a nice room, but it has the same problem - a lot of local regs.

Mirage is pretty awful. Everyone at the table will be like 60 years old.

I hate the Bellagio. The games are soft but honestly it's not worth it. The tables are crammed together, the staff are grouchy beyond belief, and most of the dealers have one foot in the grave. The place is dirty.. there's half empty glasses everywhere. It's very smoky, especially if you're on a table by the rail and people are blowing smoke into the room. Also, the players, in general are grumpy as all hell because of all of these reasons. Recommendation to avoid.

I played once at Aria and it was kind of ruined for me because there was a loudmouth drunk at the table. Some of the people aren't clear on the rules. The cage told me the max buyin at 5/10 was $1500, I got to the table and it was $3000. I asked for a seat change button and got it, then was told it goes by seniority at the table. Why have a fucking seat change button then? So it was annoying but really, it's a nice room.

MGM was a really soft game when I played the 5/10 there, but that was like 2 years ago I think and they don't have 5/10 anymore. I'm sure it still runs 2/5, check it out.

So, yeah, Venetian is my recommendation.

Awesome post, please post your trip reports on here more!:)
  • I was down there for a week during the WSOP (last week of June) and found a venue on my last day, but it was a taxi ride off the strip.

The casino is called Orleans and it seemed to have a lot less local grinders. Lots of retired dudes playing to pass the time, tourists looking for some fun, and dealers playing on their off days.

I only played their $1/2 game, but it allows $500 buy-ins which made it play much bigger. I played from about noon to 6pm to pass the time before my redeye flight.

Otherwise, I stuck to the $2/5 game at the Venetian and the Wynn. Was happy with both setups, though food service was a little slow at the Wynn. Daytime games were reasonably soft, though they definitely had a fair number of local grinders.

    Have fun down there!!
  • Venetian is by far the nicest poker room, but also now for some reason has become a little tougher. Now let me define tougher. Basically there are more people who know what they are doing compared to those who do not. I am not saying the game is not beatable (but it is), however, if you idea in vegas is to smash as much as you can with a pre-defined limit I would stay away from Venetian. (You get a nice hourly as well so you can pay for most of your food)

Caesars now on the other hand is the total opposite. Their 1-3 game plays like 5/10cent online and literally if you play position and make reasonable plays with hands you will have a decent win rate. Their 2-5 game rarely runs and if it does there are usually only 1-2 tables max, however they are beatable and much easier than Venetian. (The food is crazy expensive, just make some profit and pull it from the table...)

Aria I would compare it to the same as Caesars with both games. However the difference here is that there are a ton more regulars who seem to be over the age of 70 and believe the only game you should play is one where people are donating money, any type of game that actually involves some thinking or if they see people making lay downs they leave. So the games tend to break sporadically. (the food at the table is expensive but they do pay you per hour so you can get a discount)

MGM has really soft games as well, I would put them in with Monte Carlo/IP/Bally's etc. These casinos aren't known for their card rooms and so you get maybe 1 or 2 players that know things about poker and the rest are from your kitchen table home game. Fun if you wish to sit and just get absolutely hammered.

Bellagio is in its own world. The card room is really weird as they have all the lists on the inside of the room so you have to crowd by pillers to see where you are on the list. The limits/buy ins are similar to Fallsview and play the same way. The games aren't tough and its one of those things where you want to goto vegas and play at bellagio just to say you played there. (goodluck with food service or service in general)

Goodluck where ever you play and if you can get on a table just as tournament players start getting knocked out you can definitely make a few extra bucks (IE Caesars and Venetian/MGM dailys)

    Hope that helps.
  • ok, I'm a chump... the only new room I played at this trip was Rio due to being there for a concert. Stuck to my usual MGM, PH and Venetian.

but how did you make out at those shops and what were the games like?
  • i found bellagio and venetian to be the best. equally good and bad players but A LOT OF ACTION. bellagio's 1/2 is not for the faint hearted lol. min is 100 and max is 2 but with so many ppl the action is usually always 25 bucks preflop for a call. i love that. AVOID CEASAR's that place is the home base for idiots and drunkards. or maybe it just happened with me. i played the 1/3 and there were only like 4 tables going. nothing higher than 5/5 PLO. i did win the tourney there but cash game sucks. i can't say much for aria b/c its relatively new so a lot of high rollers play there. mgm is pretty soft but filled with nits. Mirage is the most DEAD place in town. went by on a saturday night to check it out for myself and found 2 tables open. SHOCKING considering that was the place in town to be a few years ago.
  • The wynn is a nice poker room but a lot of local grinders that prey on the tourists there. I broke even but not due to the grinders (they are easy to spot) but to some jack ass that called my all in with the flush draw to my made straight. I know I know that's what I want him to do but unfortunately he left the table immediately after that hand and pissed it away at another table playing for more coin.
  • I know this is a very small sample size but I didn't enjoy the Venetian that much. I played at three different tables as the game was so passive. Raise to $10 and everyone would fold. Maybe the poker clubs in TO are a lot more aggressive play? I found PH was a lot better in the evening and MGM was good in the day time. Lots of new players at PH and its a very young crowd. MGM was good because they always had a couple tables going, even first thing in the morning. If you normally play 2/5-5/5, I would avoid the 1/2-1/3 tables and just stick to 2/5. The action level is a lot better at the 2/5 games. I thought the 2/5 tables would be a lot deeper but most players were buying in for $300-$400. Didn't see any games bigger than 2/5 at any of the poker rooms I played at.

I did check out Aria which seems like a great hotel to stay at and the poker room seemed pretty busy mid day.
