Any Interest ?
So, I am looking for something to sink my teeth into. In the last few weeks I have thought a lot about trying to put together medium sized decent tournaments that players would be chomping at the bit to get into.
Play every 3 weeks, over the course of the fall, winter and spring, say Oct - May.
I know a lot of players have opened their homes and hosted games in the past.
If anyone is interested in Hosting or helping get this off the ground.
Buy-Ins 60-100 CAD Games would be held in the GTA .
3 tables of 8 24 players would be the minimum . Freeze out? 1 rebuy ? Add Ons, Point Structure , Championship Game
This would actually be a league.
Boundaries : KW to the west. Ajax to the east. Niagara to the south and Barrie to the north.
Let me know what you think.

110 players would be the max. This I would consider if it were once a month and more than likely would be on Sundays. Registration 11-12 lunch from 12-1 and the cards in the air at 1:15. Blinds would run in the vicinty of 8 to 9 hours.
Buy in would probably be around $100.00 to include the buffet. Around 20-25 per plate. All you can eat.
I am also looking at 1 re-buy and an add on.
Point structured and minimum events played in to play the championship.
The big thing is getting people who know what they are doing to volunteer some time to make it work. I will get everything info wise and put something up next Sunday. I should have some figures ready by then too.
+!. But I would only be playing to a max. buy-in of $60.00 anyway. Once a month would be a great add-on to the League for me . . . of course, ymmv.
In order for this to work and run smoothly I need a ton of ideas to mix and put together and hopefully come up with the right formula.
Now, Here is how I see it from past experience.
To Generate higher prize pools and keep the buy-ins more than reasonable: Based on 50 entries. $50.00 Buy In $2500.00
1 $25.00 Re-Buy say 20 $ 500.00
1 $25.00 Add On 50 $1250.00
total pool $4250.00
There is a good chance you will get 50 players out to this on a regular basis. Quite a mix also.
$60.00 freezeout 50 $3000.00
Maybe 35 good players $2100 pool
$100.00 freezeout Maybe 20 players if you are lucky.
Some people don't like the re-buy or add on until they bust out early and re buy, then go on to win. I have seen this a lot too.
It makes sense to me to do it this way the minimum you will spend is 75 . The higher the prizes the more players you will get.
As for the buffet lunch idea, I would think that would put the venue into a tricky spot in terms of legalities, as well. Also, that would also ratchet up the price to approx. $100.00 per person, accepting your numbers. Most might just prefer a dinner break to get their own nom-noms for less than that, regardless of the quality of the spread.
all these variations are fine as long as they are clear ahead of time and not last minute decisions based on low turn out. Nothing I hate more than showing up for a freezeout that turns into a rebuy because they are short players.
I have been in several of each and you get way more players to a re buy event than freezeout. A lot of donkeys with money.
Re buys go into that nights pot along with the add-ons
Underground clubs may do this but I don't. Charity events mostly the original buy-in goes to the prize pool with most or all re buys and add ons going to whoever they are rasing money for.
I don't work this way. I want as many players as I can get so I would offer Higher Prize Pools.
Maybe 2 or 3 % would go to the championship event. If we ran a league.
You have to build a championship pot and players would qualify for this through the season.
It's not so hard to run this style of league but I find it hard to
1. Find hosts who are willing to have a bunch of strangers in their homes for the first 3 or 4 events. Understandably so.
2 Fill the seats available for each event.
I have found that some players who like to play but are not as skilled as other players playing come out once and figure they are out of their league and never show up again.
It's going to run but I am looking for something more competitive . I am going to play with Ching this season also.
Not that I am any better than anyone else. Just really need a change right now.
Pretty sure I can figure something out.
If you and Mark want to give something a try we should sit down one night real soon and chart something out.
