personally I've never heard of a live 1/2 game with an ante. In fact at any level, I'm sure they exist, I've just never heard of one. That being said I'd rather play with an ante. The more dead money in a pot the better.
i have to say, i don't know of any place that does have an ante in it also, but was thinking if those high stakes guy has ante. why doesn't anyone setup ante.. it makes the game have more action, no? it makes the game start with more dead money as you say and for those nits they can\t just sit there until they have AA or whatever..

lol, have you played 1/2 live? You really think you need an ante to promote action at 1/2? Most anywhere you play 1/2 in Vegas or AC, a $12. raise gets you 4 callers and possibly somebody pulling a squeeze play with 8,9 suited baby....
i guess you guys are right abuot the action being more on a 1/2 game compaired to larger ones. so i guess at a 1/2 there won't be any antes would be most ppls answers.

Ante's are not used in 1/2 hold'em cash games.
Except for TV, cash holdem games are not played with antes.
On High Stakes Poker on TV they used ante's so that there would be more action and they would get more interesting hands.
HSP was $300/600 with a $100 Ante for the first few seasons.
Later seasons 5+, they went to a $200 Ante, (400/800 200 ante)
If you want to recreate HSP in a 1/2 game add .50 antes.
Not worth the time IMO.
As I said above, If you wanted to re-create the High Stakes Poker structure of 800bb/400sb/200ante, you would use .50 antes in 1/2.
