Satellites to Major Event
Just putting out a feeler here.
I am just wondering what you would rather play. Equity satellites to major tournaments like The WSOP or satellites with no equity.
Equity meaning if you cash in the actual event you won the satellite a % of your winnings gets split up to those players that played in the same satellite
Please discuss you reasons. Thanks

I prefer non equity for 2 reasons:
1) Mentally, if I ever had a big win (for arguments sake lets say 100K), giving back 10% would be difficult to swallow.
2) (And I dont want to sound like a douche) I am better than the majority of the field in a satellite. Meaning: Im compensating for lack of skill more often than Im being compensated.
I dont know if that makes sense. Basically if we run a satellite with equity infinity times, I am going to cash and payout percentages more often than Im going to get paid by somebody else.
The only thing is and I have seen this . A not so skilled player walks in and manages to suk out and bingo his way to a win.
No one that played that satellite is going to get paid because this guy is not going anywhere.
Once he sits down and sees Durr and Gus Hansen, Negreanu and say Nenan Medic at his table that will be it. Those are the only names I could think of off the top of my head.
If you ask me if I can cash. I think if I were to be careful and my head was right in it yes I could.
Depending on how many tables are running say 3. I would probably go with making a deal with the final 6 players.
I am curious as to what everyone (that isn't as good as Wetts...lol) else has to say..
From an organizational perspective, I think equity satellites are a positive idea.
As a player, I think its an EV leak.
I believe Niagara is doing the Fallsview Classic again since it dosen't look like the WPT is coming back anytime soon. End of Dec, first week of Jan.
Like I said before though A lot depends on what type of players are playing. No one will know about everyones skill until they actually sit down and play against them for awhile.
Depending on the cost and number of tables you probably will end up pricing a lot of the bad players out also. On the other hand there are a lot of bad players who have more money then brains. lol
Perhaps if you two didn't play? Then the rest of us have a chance?>:D
1) If you run equity tournaments, you may get people that are completely against it not showing up. Im not one of them, but there are people on this forum who have openly stated they will not show to these events.
2) If your tournament is NOT equity, the same people are going to show up that would have in the first place, and you may get some of those that are openly against it (although typically these are stronger players so it's kind of a win/lose).
I cant see anyone not showing up because you are not offering equity to the losers.
I saw the meetup poll, and voted that it was a good thing. Running a tournament of this nature can never be a "bad" thing.
I think a more realistic indicator would be to ask if you removed the equity would people still attend.
Honestly, running (basically) a winner take all 2 table sit n go is not going to attract a ton of interest.
One option is increasing the buyin and dealing with your field size. If Im going to pay $100 to play, I'll bet Im willing to pay $150.
A second option would be to put info up on 2p2 in the home poker section. There are alot of poker players in the GTA that are not PFC of Meetup members, but are on 2p2.
I was planning on posting the Tourneys on 2p2 this year. I figured that there is a large pool of poker players their that we are not getting.
I've played with you old man! I know you have no fear of my game
Personally, I like the idea, but that is strictly from the standpoint of having an extra rooting interest in the WSOP, similar to placing a bet on March Madness games.
If you won the step 2 satellite you won a seat at the main event worth 10k
Seats were transferable and college kids who bingoed their way to a seat sold them to the players at the higher stakes tables for between 7 and 8 k. If they wanted to buy them that is. Using the money for school I would guess.
This thread is about either equity or non equity satellites.
If it is an advertised satellite to win a seat at a major poker tourney then thats what you are playing for. What you do after with the seat is your business.
It would be nice if more members would comment on this.
If it is a Canadian Tourney then the Buy-In should be in Canadian Funds .
If it is in another country US or Europe then it should be whatever that country uses for it's money. Us $ Euros, Pounds or pesos, whatever.
I understand how a satalitte works, however this is a home version and he has alot more options. Just trying to make suggestions so that he would possibly get more players out. If the prize is cash those who wish to use it for a tournament buy-in can do so and those who don't can take the money and use it as they see fit. Whatever works to get the maximum players involved.
If it is a seat at the WSOP , Fallsview classic or WPT then that's what yer gonna get. Especially if that's what is advertised.
If you are interested in playing please let me know.
