Which would you rather know?

If it was possible, would you want to know all the other player's cards or would you want to have knowledge of the board. My friend and I were having this discussion driving back from the casino. I guess its not a very practical exercise, more theoretical but one that I find very interesting nevertheless.

At first, I thought no question I would rather know what other players were holding. This way, you're always making the right decision and gaining +EV. But my friend was strongly in favour of the other view that the information of the board is much more valuable. And the arguments he was making were pretty convincing so now I'm undecided. I'm sure the only way to settle it would be some sort of simulation.

So which poker superpower would you rather have?

  • If the board means all 5 community cards, then that for sure. You would know when to play those pesky suited connectors and A-little suited. (assuming you now know you hit the flush or straight)

If you just knew the other players cards, you would fold your A-little suited if you saw someone with a bigger kicker.

Of course, having both powers would be better. :-)
  • im with grazzt
  • I'll take all the players cards. Simple odds. Then I know 20 of the cards already in play. Then could make adjustments after the flop. Knowing the board means nothing. You could still be beat. My way you get out when you "know" your beat.

but youd never have to get far into a losing hand -youd know which hands would eventually make you the nuts.
just imagine, everyhand you play, you could play like you do when you know you have the nuts.
