Poker in and around Montreal

Hi people, hope everyone's well.

So here's how it is:

Am arriving in Montreal (Brossard to be precise!) on the 9th July from sunny England. My partner is Canadian and we fly out two - three times a year to visit her parents etc.

Last summer was my first time in Canada and I only played at the main casino, which I absolutely loved, but would much prefer some tournament play.

I've had a brief look about online and seen Snakes, Metropolitan Poker League and Four Aces.

I'm just looking for some general recommendations really, where the action is and where the numbers are good. Nothing major like £/$1000 buy-ins, just around the $50/$60/$70 mark will be fine.

Look forward to speaking to you all.

Cheers,

Grant

  • I think most of the poker is on the indian reserves. I think Four Aces is decent and they likely have a website.

Yeah the Four Aces website looks good, pretty smart club.

Is it advisable to go onto the reserves to play poker though? I have no problem with it personally, just don't want to be breaking any laws, or head to these places if they're not totally safe!

    I wouldn't go
  • I don't think there is any chance of getting busted as they are on Indian land and clearly visible. I have only played on the reserve once a couple years ago and there was two security guards at the front door. It is a pretty rural area. Maybe someone from Montreal can give you better advice.
  • Four Aces is a LEGAL poker room that is sanctioned by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. The KGC and the Kahnawake reserve have the Legal right to enforce and maintain their own gaming, including poker rooms and online sites.
As for security, there has never been an incident here at Four Aces, and we take our security VERY seriously.
Starting July 28th, we are going to begin our Four Aces Open. All details will be posted on our website starting next week. It will be 7 days of tournaments, all varieties of poker at all buy-ins from $65 all the way up to our $2500 main event.
Check out our site next week at www.fouracespoker.ca

  • Been to Snakes and Playground..... it is NOT an issue. What is the poker like a Montreal Casino? Last time I was there I got into a fight with the pit boss in the BJ area.... not sure if I really want to go back.
  • Anyone played at Casino Montreal recently? What games typically run on the weekend? If I am staying downtown, is it worth the effort to get over to the 'Indian reserve' poker rooms or is Casino Montreal fine for 2/5 or 5/5 action. Thanks.
  • The Casino is much closer for someone who doesn't have a car, and there's plenty of action at 2/5 and 5/5 all the time. So if you only have one opportunity to play, I would default to going there.

That being said, Playground is a really great room and the whole experience is better - good food, drinks at the tables, lots of action, etc. If you're interesting in playing in tournaments, both Snakes and Playground run very good tournaments every night.
