Unusual Ruling

Every year, the WSOP has some rather unique occurences that make up some pretty interesting on the floor rulings by the directors that are NOT covered by the official rules of play. This year is no different it seems.

A player lost a sizeable part of his starting chip stack to another player, who admittingly, WAS NOT EVEN REGISTERED IN THE TOURNAMENT! Player 2 was supposed to play the shoot out event the next day, but arrived a day early and was placed in the previous event. He even showed his registration card to the dealer prior to the start of the event, who looked at it, gave him his starting stack, and began to play. No one would have been any wiser had he not mentioned, after winning a rather sizeable pot, "isn't it great playing five handed in a shootout event?" The other players quickly informed him that he was NOT playing a shootout, and called the floor.

The floor came over, listened, consulted one another, and informed player 2 that he would have to leave the event and come back to play the correct event the next day. They removed his chips and sent him on his way. Player 1 then asked how it was possible that he could lose a sizeable part of his stack to a player that wasn't even registered in the event being played.

Again, the floor listened, consulted one another, and ruled that since Player 1 had lost his chips "IN GOOD FAITH" to the unregistered player, he would not be entitled to have them returned. He had to play the remaining time literally short stacked due to a loss to someone not even in the game.

Would love to hear from 13Cards on this one :o

  • Even better, he continues (as does the table as a whole) without the chance to win those lost chips back, as they are now out of play.
  • Im not sure why, but I actually agree with the ruling.

Edit: I know why now. Had he won the hand I doubt he says a word.

Not sure this is much different from winning a big pot, and then having the table break, or being moved.

  • Wonder if he would still have been allowed to play the event he was registered to if he had busted this one..
  • What if he had gotten into the money before someone realized he was not supposed to be there?
