Table draw poll

Hypothetical situation: You're in a major tournament (WSOP, WPT, CPT), who do you least want to see drawn at your original table?
Please feel free to explain why you chose who you did :)

  • Who would I least want at my first table of a tournament. Well first off I would like to say that I fear NOBODY in poker. I dont care if you are Daniel Negreanu, Chip Reese, Doyle Brunson, TJ Cloutier, NOBODY! I think that fear seriously cripples one's game and skill in poker and I am not about to let that happen to me. So for the people out there that fear other players, stop... I know it can be hard not to fear them, but they are just regular players like you and I. Play them the same as you would anybody else.

Having said that, there is a person that I wouldnt like at my table just because he is unpredictable and seems to have a real natural talent for the game and that is Phil Ivey. Yeah I know over the last year what has he done? What hasnt he done, is my question to you all. Everyone bases there best poker players on results they see on TV. Ivey only enter 2 major tournaments over the past year and he finished in one table at one of them. What has he been doing? Tearing up the highest cash games availible in Las Vegas. Making more money in one nights work than he would for three days work in a big tournament. That is what he is doing. He really has been ignoring tournaments, but he is still the same player he was when he won those 4 WSOP bracelets in one year. He is the man I dont want at my table just because he will be taking the chips from the players, the chips that should be going into my stack. :)
  • Daniel, Scharf, and Gus would all be unwelcome at my table. I suspect I'd have to have good hands and hit some good flops, in order to win. These are the types of players who put you to the test time and time again, not just with their raising and re-raising, but with their calling! Then you try to figure out what the hell they could be calling you with while they quietly rake in your chips.

Sounds like a bad dream to me.

  • I'm with Dennis... I wouldn't want any of them!
  • Ummm DJW, I didnt say I wouldnt want any of em at my table... I said the least I would want is Phil Ivey. Seriously, I dont care who is at the table. Its all the same to me. Realisticly I would be able to dominate better with a bunch of fish at my table like I am used to at Party Poker... but really I wouldnt be upset to see a table full of well known pro's. I would just have to deal with it. :)

I probably skimmed your post sorry!

I still stand by my statement though.

Its all good man, dont worry bout it... :)
  • How about who I would love to face out of the group. I always try my best to not get personal at the poker table but have to admit that sometimes I do have a hard time doing that. However throwing that aside I would love to meet these people for the following reasons - warning some reasons are pretty childish( I apologize now).

    1. - Mike Matusow - just to try and make him cry again.

    2. Josh Arieh - way to cocky for my liking. I cannot stand players that comment on other peoples plays and belittles someone else for the way he/she played a hand.

3 - Annie Duke - something about here that I just don't like. I am not a big fan of the whole skateboarder and greasy hair look.

4 - Danile Negreanu - I would hate to play him cause he is so dam good but just to say I did would be a thrill of a lifetime!

    ROFLMAO.

I guess you won't be interested in this, then, quoted from Bluff Magazine:

"Rumours persist of a sitcom in the pipeline, based on the everyday life of single mom and poker queen Annie Duke, to be penned by Jack Bardiff, the genius behind Fraser. A little bird just told me that it's all going full steam ahead, pushed by Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky's production company, 'Is or Isn't'. Apparently the company has just sold the rights to NBC following a cutthroat bidding war with CBS."
  • i voted for Annie Duke

    CO
  • Gotta go with Dennis on this one...I have no read on Phil Ivey...not that I have one on the others BUT Ivey means DANGER for me. Of course, noone on this list is someone I would want to see but you have to beat the best to be the best. I'm actually surprised to see that noone has voted for Helmuth, does he get no respect anymore? He would annoy and intimidate me at the same time which is a lethal combination. I have to be honest and say that at times I am seriously annoyed by some players at the table...yes, it's a weakness.. Should I have added Devon to the list?

I am hoping that these are two separate thoughts, as opposed to the second thought springing from the first....?

I'm nowhere near the calibre of player that these guys are. Not on my best day. But, thanks for thinking of me!

Help me out Aces I do not understand what that means?
  • Well, it's kinda geeky when you translate it, but it means 'rolling on the floor laughing my ass off'. Not literally.
  • Choice was easy for me. Would love to play with them all. But if I had to choose from the list whom I would lest like to play against, Harrington takes the cake. This guy is smooth, quiet , unassuming, and deadly. All the otheres I could learn from. He on the other hand is like the snake in the grass. No one notices him until it's too late. Then bam your dead.

Oh no, I wasn't saying that you are at all annoying lol :) That one tourny that we played in together was not enough for me to make that assumption but after reading 1000 of your posts I assure you that I do not believe that.

  • I wouldn't care about my table draw at all. The goal is to play with the best players -- making the final table. So, at some point you'll have to play great players.

I voted for Annie Duke because I absolutely dislilke her. I don't have a problem playing someone I don't like. But, a certain part of me would want to get her into bed. And, therin lies the problem. I have this thing going on between brain man, and well, Monkey Man. Brain man says, "You would have to chew your arm off to get away in the morning without having to talk to her". And Monkey Man says "She has a nice pair, lets see where this goes. All that distraction would not be good for my game.

BTW, Good job Dave. I wouldn't have tried to patch things up. But kudos to you for being the bigger person -- something she would NEVER be able to do.

    Cheers
