WSOP Main Event Trip July 14 - 19th

Well I have some AC and Westjet credits left over from a failed Vegas trip last October, so I am looking at a short trip during the main event in July. Figure this is a good time to visit, with all the main event festivities happening that week. Anyone else heading down this week? Hopefully I can get in to watch the final table on July 17th. Still have to figure out hotel, etc. Still lots of planning to do.

  • Honestly, the last few days of the ME, all the buzz have died and the Amazon/Pavilion room slowly gets packed up (refer to the ESPN WSOP footages from the latter days and you'll see what I mean). If you have a choice, go a week earlier during the earlier days where alot of players are still in.

And FT is in November same as the past 2 years
  • Not only that but most of the other series have ended so not as much choice if you want to play tournaments, most of the cash games have gone back to their regular levels.. You really should go earlier, I echo Westsides comments..
  • probably explains why there are flights available this week. Not much choice the week before, unfortunately.

I'm not really a tournament player. Probably just play cash and watch the main event get down to final 9.
  • Yeah go a week earlier, you still have the venetian, caesar, and aria tourney series

so I ended up booking the week of July 26 - 30th, staying at Planet Hollywood. Looks like it will be more a 80s concert trip than poker. Going to see Squeeze/English Beat and Cheap Trick. First concert I ever attended back in 1978 back at Maple Leaf Gardens was Cheap Trick. Gone full circle I guess.

Probably play the Venetian noon tournament as this seems like one of the better tournaments for the money. Not sure if anything else happening that week? Probably just play some cash at Venetian/PH and check out a couple of the new poker rooms.

I believe Hard Rock is hosting a tourney series that might coincide with your dates.

ok, thanks. Probably just play 1 or 2 tournaments at the most anyways. Try to have a relaxing trip this time.
  • off tonight until Friday... wish me luck... GTA, I will not try to panic when I hit my set against Moneymaker this time :)
  • Just back from my trip. Overall a pretty successful trip compared to 09. Found the 1/2 really slow compared to my usual games in Toronto, especially during the day. My biggest mistake was not playing more 2/5 until the last session as the action was a lot better. MGM and Venetian had games running constantly (even at 9am) unlike some of the other casinos. MGM didn't get their 2/5 game going until around noon (only 1 table). Ended up about $800US for the six sessions.

One funny hand that comes to mind: Cuba (loose) vs Cowboy (rock). 1/2 at Venetian. MP raises to $7 and after several callers, Cowboy makes it $65. Cowboy is really tight and previously showed AA after a pre-flop $17 raise. Everyone folds except Cuba. Low flop with two diamonds and cowboy bets $20 with a call from Cuba. Turn is a low non-diamond and cowboy bets $50 followed by another call by Cuba. River is a non-diamond and cowboy decides to check. Cuba goes all-in and cowboy has about $150 behind. Cowboy tanks and finally calls. Cuba declares he was bluffing and shows A10 for A high. Cowboy stares at the A10 and mucks. Everyone is shocked that he didn't have a big pair and he would make this call without even a pair. I guess he figured he was on a broken flush draw and missed.
