My first car accident :(

So, a few weeks ago, on my way home from work I got into my first ever car accident. Nothing bad and no one was hurt.

I had a busted rear passanger side tail light (just a bit of the plastic/lights still work), and a few scratch marks on the bumper. The damage to his truck was on the driver's door. A few scratches and a bit of a dent just above the running boards. My VW Golf vs his Dodge Ram ftw.

Its kind of a weird circumstance. I was parked facing north. Backing out towards the west to continue east on a main thrufare. He was travelling north on a residential street, and turning east onto the same main thrufare. But the key is I was already almost done backing up to continue east when he came around the corner from a residential side street with a stop sign. I even asked..did you come from around the corner and he said yes. I bet he didn't fully stop though I can't prove that.

So, I write down all my info, and he doesn't give me his. No biggie and had the plate number anyways. Didn't even think the guy would make a claim, and why take the points on my licence if I don't have to so I wait to see what he does. Got the letter yesterday that he made the claim.

Went in and saw the adjuster after work today. Explained what happened, and since I was the one reversing it is my fault. A stupid wording in the law in my opinion but whatever. Since the part is less than my deductible, I will change the tail light myself. I had already ordered the part that day anyways.

I will say I was pissed off at the simple fact that I was even in an accident, but that passed quick, shit happens.. Today I just had to laugh, because I will now lose 12 points off my licence, which means I will get a 6% discount on my insurance now instead of 18%.

BUT THEN, it pissed me off when she said he made the claim then didn't show up for his appointment with the adjuster to record the damage. If he wasn't going to follow through, I certainly didn't need to lose the points!! And I will always maintain that it was NOT my fault!!

Some people's children!!! Like ...seriously :P

Thanks for listening.

  • Seems obvious he was just trying to $&%# with you . . .

Glad you are okay. A car is just a thing, and can be repaired or replaced.

    Fixed it for you . . .
  • I think it might be an offense to withhold Insurance info. in accident cases. You may want to look into that.

And before you think I am kidding, my wife got sued, by the driver that hit her and totaled her car. He walked out of the friggin' hospital on his own two feet. Not sure for how much, but I know our Insurer settled with the prick.

People do all sorts of crazy shit when they think $$$ is in the offing . . .
  • He is going to make a claim alright, small claims court claim.

  • You can't sue here Philly. Welcome to socialist Saskatchewan :)
