The best poker book EVER!

okay, thats sarcasm in the title, but I just have to share this book I just got as an early xmas present from my sister.

Its called Learn how to win at texas hold -em poker for 5 bucks.

Quote 1:

"Suppose the board after the turn looks like this ad 5c 4c 5d. Now the highest hand is a straight flush 2d 3d"

Quote 2:

"Suppose you were holding ah 5h and the flop comes out qs 8h. You have missed your flush draw because only the 8 is hearts, but you have flopped a small pair of 5's" (uh ok, wheres the 5 on the flop?)

Thats just two ive picked out.. there are many more.

They switch between using 10 and T for tens, the use pictures for some suits, but other times use As and Th. The guys email address on the last page is spelled wrong. He recommends calling bets with qs js on a board of qh jh 2h 8h 4h. Im sorry, but in a raised pot, I aint calling just by playing the board. He recommends bluffing when "youve given people the fear".

And the best thing overall, is that on amazon, someone is selling this book used for 34.95 UK pounds. lol, the title says its worth 5 bux, but lets sell it for 34.95 pounds.

Ok, my rant is over. Just thought I would share it.

My sis only paid 2.50, so i dont care, more of a joke gift.. and man has it been a joke..

  • At least you got a good laugh out of it :D
  • I saw a copy of that book just today while Christmas shopping. Wifey was looking over my shoulder as I was thumbing through it. I put it back on the rack I got it from, wifey asked if it were any good. I said you get what you pay for. Needless to say, I hope she didn't take that as a stocking stuffer wish.
  • The publisher of that book contacted me by email last summer informing me that I was being considered as a possible candidate to author "Learn How To Win At Texas Holdem For Five Bucks".

I said I'd be happy to write a short introductory booklet on how to win a texas holdem for practically nothing, as it would have been great publicity for me as a poker writer, but I never heard back from them.

That's what happens when a suit and tie, who knows nothing about poker, is asked to find someone to write a book about poker.

  • My book was written under similar circumstances:

    (1) Publisher needs poker book in a hurry,
    (2) Contacts me and I rush the book as fast as I can.

Actual content or quality was not too important. Words that look like they are about poker written by someone with some claim to credibility was more important.

I am proud of my effort, but the rushed aspect of the job really show in the first printing where there are lots of typos. Lots. Ugh. Second printing better.
