letter to my buddies
Buddies love poker. Buddies have difficulties staying focused and with etiquette. I want to set up an 10 man/8 game league to send one of us fish to the WSOP 1k buy-in next year (assuming they will have one).
Not a single one these guys will ever set their cyberfoot in a poker forum, read a poker mag or go out of their way to learn more about the game, so I could be just wasting my breath with them...
To all of you reading, it may seem incredible that I have to draft something like this up but I imagine you've all played with some of these types before.
Looking for your tips, opinions, suggestions, additions, subtractions, corrections, approval, disapproval or just simply ignore, up to you.
Okay fellas, I know some of you ride me a little here and there for being strict with the game and your actions and that’s fine but I do it with good intentions. Not because I like to be in charge or enjoy being a dictator but to keep the game running as smooth, comprehensible and as competitive as possible.
There is nothing worse than confusion, sloppiness and bad etiquette at the poker table. Those attributes waste valuable time, they affect the quality of the game and can potentially cost someone money. So, with a grand prize like we have here on the line, I am going to insist that the following points be adhered to. Remember, the majority of these points are actual legitimate casino tournament rules, not just requests on my behalf. A tournament director WILL warn and possibly issue a penalty for many of these infractions. By following these closely, it will prime the eventual winner for the real deal at the WSOP, he will be prepared and know exactly what to expect at the table in Vegas.
RULES
- if you step away from the table, your hand is mucked. No waiting.
- no coaching anyone in a hand.
- two or more chips raise rule. If someone bets and you throw out one oversize chip, it shall be considered just a call. If you throw out one chip you must announce raise before that chip hits the felt.
- show one person your hand, you must show all.
- you must table two cards in order to win the hand. No showing just one card.
- no splashing the pot. Keep your blinds and bets in front of you until dealer collects them.
- keep your highest denomination chips in the front of your stack
- if you are dealing, please play attention to the hand. Don’t make everyone have to tell you when to burn and turn.
- please do your best to keep you chip stack at least colour coordinated. This way if someone asks you for a chip count you won’t have to waste valuable time by separating them, then regrouping them by denomination and THEN getting around to the counting.
There, that’s not so bad is it? I mean, in all games that we love, be it Football, Hockey, Golf or MMA, they are all governed by rules and yet we still enjoy watching and playing them. Poker should be no different.
If you have a real aversion to any or all of these rules, then perhaps this specific event isn’t for you.

Oh, and you missed the most important one...NO SUNGLASSES!
Bill runs a tight game as far as rules are concerned. Its the ONLY thing tight at his game.
Thanks mang. I just read it and I'm not sure that esool knows how to get his point across.;)
thanks for the reply AJ. S-betting isn't an issue with these guys, at least they have THAT down lol. A couple of guys wear the glasses but their game is transparent anyway, I've read their books :-)
I don't mean to pee on your parade but isn't this a waste of money?
The winner would have to run as hot as Darin Moon...
... ummm wait .... nevermind :-)
LOL, I hear ya! Anything is possible. I fully expect at least 7 of the 10 possible winners to be exiting in the 3rd level at the latest but it's the whole experience and bragging rights plus a trip to vegas for $200-$250 that will be the big draw. One of us could get on a heater and be bringing home to bacon!
