Poker Tourney Ideas

Soooooooo.... Bantering back and forth over different ways to do a large tourney without overflowing someones house with a couple of the players in our league.
One way I thought was running 6 person heats over the course of a few weeks. with the table winner advancing to the next round.
72 players would work perfect. (European Open or Poker Million) without Jessie May giggling like a giddish school girl every 15 seconds.
I just turn the sound down when I watch any show he is hosting just because he is so effin ANNOYING.
Would some of you be interested. Buy in would probably $50.
NO RAKE.. Deepstack. Blinds increasing every 20 mins.:biggrin2:

Zithal ran something like this a few years ago. I'll see if I can find the thread.

    EDIT: Found it:

  • I was thinking more along the lines of.
Dates would be Tues or Wed Night. and Sunday afternoon.
6 players in each heat. Blind Draw. You may either play one night or afternoon.
I am basing this on 72 players. 12 Round 1 Winners move to Semi Finals.
top 3 from these 2 make it to the final.
50K starting chips. Blinds increase every 20 mins
    1. 100 - 200
    2. 200 - 400
    3. 300 - 600
    4. 400 - 800
    5. 500 - 1000
    Break
    6. 600 - 1200 ante 100
    7. 700 - 1400 ante 200
    8 800 - 1600 ante 300
    9 900 - 1800 ante 400
    10 1000 - 2000 ante 500
    Break
    11. 1500 - 3000 ante 500
    12 2000 - 4000 ante 500
    13 2500 - 5000 ante 500
    14 3000 - 6000 ante 500
    15 4000 - 8000 ante 500
    16 5000 - 1000 ante 1000
    17 10000 -20000 ante 1000
    18 20000 - 40000 ante 2000
    19 40000 - 80000 ante 4000. Keep Doubling each round
Round should be finished before midnight.
Prize payouts to final 6.Still in the stages of working this out with different numbers of players. and maybe having the top 2 from each heat moving on.
There would be no carry overs in chips. If you get through everyone in the next heat would would have 50k and start from round 1.
  • 2nd place finishers could move into a "second chance round" where the winner of that moves to the final table? Just a thought, as it allows the Finalists of each heat a chance to be rewarded with out diminishing too much the winner's of each heat's achievement.

So, the winners all move to the final table, and the winner of the "2nd place table" gets in, as well.
  • One comment on your blind structure and please don't take it personally... lol

Your ante's are way out of whack.. They vary from 1/6th to 1/2 of the small blind.. Look at level 9 and 10... Should produce lots of pushing since the amount in the pot preflop will be huge in comparison to the blinds. You need to level the ante's out so that the increases stay close as a % of the blinds..
Ante's should never be more that 1/3 of the small blind at most and should be as flat a progression as possible..
Have a look at a WSOP structure for a good example...

  • Okay, just re-read your post. You're looking at 12 x 6 player shoot-outs leaving two six-player tables for the final, correct?

That being the case, you can take the second place finishers and put them in a two table shoot-out, where the winner of each table moves to the final, which would then be a two table 14 player event.

And, yeah, your blind sked is kind of wonky . . . :-X
  • :laugh:Yes I know. I just threw it together. Really Quick. Our next night is May 15th so I will have a chance to talk to the players in our league.
If anything we will do this after the June 26th Championships.
    I greatly appreciate the feedback..
  • The other thing too Jeff is the starting stacks are more than likely going to be 50k instead of the 100k they use on the Poker Million Format and Premier League if that's what you want to call it...:D
