Rush Tournaments

I played one of these yesterday. I doubt I will play one again while I am multi tabling but they are (imo) the most exploitable form of MTT currently.

1) Knowing: Most people quick fold until they get a nut hand.

I decided I would open every single hand.

I decided I would fold every time I got 3bet. (maybe getting exploited by some people using the same theory but w/e).

I decided I would 3bet every single time it was opened on me in the blind.

I decided I would fold every time there was a 4bet shove.

With 1500 starting stacks I got to 16K showing down very little.

Doubled up to ~35K QQ > 1010.

Busto QQ < AK for about 3x buyin.

I dont know what my point is, but this is definately the game where optimal game theory can be exploited huge, at an accelerated level for an MTT.

  • Yeah I play basically the same way. Also when you pay the BB is based on time not # of hands so quick play is rewarded with extra hands without paying the blinds. I auto 3 bet from the button and cutoff a lot too when someone opened.

Pokertracker was working for the cash rush game but it doesn't seem to work in the tourneys?
  • Interesting analysis, this was the first hand I played in a rush tourney so I got tilted and was like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU rush:
Poker hand played on PartyPoker with a pot size of $4,345 - Pokerhand.org

Definitely gunna try some more out though.

yeah it won't work with rush donkaments, maybe because there is a bigger pool of players?
  • Tried it a couple sundays ago, terrible move. Can only 2 table max if I play one of these again.

Is this true for both cash and MTT, or just cash?
  • Yeah you need to play fast or else you pay the BB too often. Multi-tabling kills you.
  • what's your 3bet sizing? are you saying you 3 bet only steals or EP raises as well?
  • Heres a random hand sequence from somewhere in the mid stages. Lots of text warning. I dont give much credit to any PF bets TBH. The only thing to pay attention to is opening stack sizes.

seems like pretty standard 6max play -- I guess the benefit is that you can do it all game as noone will ever catch on

FWIW...I started playing 2-3 tables of the RUSH cash tables recently, instead of just playing 1 rush + a bunch of other tables. It's quite fun to join the player pool multiple times and just multi-table within the same player pool. 3 is basically max I can play now...I think I can max out at 4 if I play more often but that is pretty much the absolute max without timing out alot.

hehe, just made a note to open every one of your blinds and 4 bet ship ATC...oh wait, maybe I shouldn't have said that <.< These tournaments are gonna make regulars metagame the hell out of themselves
  • Played one on Sunday....along with 5 other MTT's......didn't work good, don't think I'll play again. Did the tournament take a shorter time to run than a normal one?
  • Doing one right now, I'm doing pretty well sitting 4/19 or wtv but it sure takes a lot out of you after 4 hours or whatever. Structure is great, plenty of 100BB play

im pretty sure the tourneys are time, while cash is # of hands.

The tourneys are different to punish people trying to stall on the bubble.

YouTube - RUSH poker bad beats.
  • didn't read any other responses but rush tourns are death. they seem to add a lot of value in rebuys tho, prizepools seem to get huge so idk. I don't wanna play more than 1 at a time w/ other tourneys, takes so much focus away from everything else.
  • What program is he running in that Rush vid PHili posted? Bottom of his screen..is that just a replayer?
