Card Dead at Seneca

Had to pick up my inlaws at the Buffalo airport so I went down a bit early to play at Seneca. I've only played here once before yet I was seated with 3 guys I played with last year. Sat down at a 1-2 NL table and was absolutely card dead for 1.5 hours. Played 3 hand total (didn't complete a SB at all and threw away BB after action flops. Finally get KQs and raise from MP after folded to me-everyone folds. A few hands later I am on the button with 6 limpers. I limp with J10o, flop come AK4 rainbow. Checked around. Turn is a queen making my straight but putting two diamonds on board. I bet half pot and get 1 caller. River completes diamond draw, caller checks and I check. He had flopped 2 pr. Another orbit or so of garbage and then KQs on the button. EP player raises to $6 there is one caller, I call on button and BB calls. Flop comes Q67 rainbow. EP fires a c-bet of $10 but doesn't look happy with the overcard, folded to me I re-raise to $25 and BB insta-calls. Turn is a 2-he checks and I check behind. River is a 9, he checks and I check. He shows 67 for flopped two pair. I was pleased with myself for losing the minimum here. Earlier in my career I would have fired again on the turn and probably river too...

If you had been the BB would you not have tried to end the hand early with bottom 2 pair? Just curious. I think that's what I would have wanted to do.

Hopefully that got rid of my "card-deadness" for my home game tonight and Vegas next week!

  • You should play more hands in position
  • Yeah I probably missed a few spots in position, but based on the showdowns I would have actually needed hands to play, there was no position bets that were getting people to lay anything down. Any suggestions in this case, GTA?

I think GTA was saying, "If the cards are cold, it shouldn't effect the plays you make that don't require cards"

    Position bets at Seneca,

Usually I size them around $21-27.

Betting about $17 or less gets you 1 or 2 callers.

    Eg,

5 limpers .. you have the button, pretend to look at your cards, raise to $27...

If this doesn't work then you have to go higher, say $31.
  • I would have probably packed it in after the first 1/2 hour. Even when the crappola hands don't hit .
