grey area rule?

4 handed.

SB in
BB in
cutoff limps
button announces raise...

at the raise announcement, SB quickly folds, BB folds immediately after SB and all this before button announces how much he intends to raise.

cutoff vocalizes his discontent at the blinds folding before amount of raise is even announced. SB and BB say they didn't fold out of turn therefore don't believe a rule was technically broken. Cutoff explains that their actions may influence button's betting since he only has one person to beat.

I see both points to the story. Was there a rule broken? If not, is it bad etiquette to fold so quickly with others to act behind?

  • Prickish, but no way you can penalize a player for folding out of turn. Sometimes I wish back-room beatings were still a regular occurrence. Basic poker etiquette is dead. RIP.
  • The SB and BB should not fold until it is their actual turn.

The raiser is not done their turn (thus passing action to the SB and BB) until they have completed their raise.

Most places will not penalize the SB and BB, but like you did, it should be explained to them why their actions hurt the game - and thus is bad form.

How come whenever I say this it is rebuffed with "Bite me asshole".

    I need new friends!
  • Dear Waterlooser:

    BITE ME ASSHOLE . . .

    Sincerely,

    your current friends.
  • I don't see this as being a big deal and surprised that CO is complaining. Most likely he is getting a discount if anything because there is no longer a need to isolate.
  • Before announcing his raise amount, he now knows he is only facing one opponent, not three. Effects (possibly) what kind of raise he actually makes.

The blinds folding as they did was not good etiquette, even if it was not strictly against the rules.

    Bad form . . .

Milo - if the place and the Royal has a backroom - i'm gonna drag you in there and take out a knee! ;)

Once you take it out, you might have a hard time catching me. I may run like a girl, but I will still be able to run . . .

    We'll discuss it over a beer . . .
  • Easiest way to beat Milo in a fight:

Me - Hey Milo, isn't that some boy who wants to date your daughter?

Milo - *turns his head in an angry manner while thinking of far away ditches to leave said boy in*

Me - *kicks Milo in the nuts, steps on his neck and runs like hell*

    EZ game :)
  • Except that after 15+ years of marriage, I have been kicked in the nutz so often, it no longer phases me . . .

so the reaction would be much different than you anticipated . . . :D
  • Ok, so stick with the original idea, then this:

And if that isn't enough, I'll just hit every bloody one of these :)

  • Sakauchi would probably be best, my shoulder has been killing me lately . . . but you're just a wee lad Cerb. Better bring some friends. ^-^
  • Milo, you do realize how easy it is for me to bribe Soya with food to do stuff right?
  • See? Now you're thinking . . . what kind of food? I like sushi . . . but steaks are good, too . . . maybe some fried chicken . . .
  • Generally, he just goes into a restaurant and points and says "uhh... this please". The waitress always gets confused and says "sir, you pointed at half the menu".

    "Yes. Please."

It's always a blast translating for him.
  • I like this guy already . . .

Technically no, but the point is well made.

Worst thing, I do this. Now that someone explained why it's bad (and it's not limit) won't happen again.
  • Just FYI folding out of turn is breaking a rule....and it is punishable. Just recently saw a pro given a penalty for folding out of turn at the Aussie Millions. Folding out of turn at WSOP earns you an automatic 1 hand penalty....repeated out of turn play results in 10 hands....

    From Robert's rules:

The following actions are improper, and grounds for warning, suspending, or barring a violator:

    Deliberately acting out of turn.

If I'm the raiser and have aces....maybe I raise slightly less because I now know I'm facing only 1 player and I want the action.....or 100 other scenarios where the out of turn folding provides information to the raiser....
